Copped a speeding ticket today, suppose I have been lucky so far, but is it legal for coppers to hide way up out of site in the forest with radar gun and binoculars then radio down the road and describing the rider and pulling them over, it does not seem right to me , normally you can see the pricks but this is like hunting us, what do you all think,, ?? PS this was up the black spur out of healesville

I have no problem with it. You were speeding and therefore you got the ticket.
Sorry..... Since they have started putting "hidden" cameras around brisbane I must admit that I have slowed down. Especially on the freeways where unmarked patrol cars are now very hard to sport. Not only are they commodore but also corollas, hilux's and a Peugeot are just some examples of cars I have seen. They also have the antennas hidden etc so unless you see the dash mounted computer you're pretty much stuffed.....
If I see the cop car I will slow down, but now that I know I won't always see the buggers I have slowed down across the board....

Because of the anti pursuit laws they now have to deal with they have had to come up with other ways to deal with speeding motorists ,otherwise everyone would think " oh well I`ll just take off and get away with it because of the new dangerous driving restrictions in place "
I wouldn`t take it personally , anyone breaking the law who gets caught will cop a fine ( well most people anyway )

Re: speeding unsportsmanlike
I am with you oldannaked, it just dont seem fair. so long as you were out on your lonesome and if you come off only you get hurt no problem I think leastways. (Under those conditions i go a bit crazy/faster on the road).
Here in QLD I believe thay have got to show you the laser gun and recorded speed if you ask to see it, but i find the officer asks me if i want to see it before i even ask. Last time i was caught redhanded was a loong time ago so things might have changed since.
After a recent driving trip to Melbourne and seeing all the extra police cars on the roads I realized if I was living down south I would not have my license, so am quite happy riding in Nth Qld.
How much was the fine?

Re: speeding unsportsmanlike
my problem is the crap speed limits that this country has...100kms is a poxy 60 miles an hour..most poms do that on tiny little back-roads and that's within the law..the massive roads we have here and wide open spaces and we still travel at slow speeds..increase the limit on country roads to 150kms..then I wouldn't be speeding !!!
I must admit ive slowed down..I cant afford any more points or the robbing fine the pricks give you

I don`t like cops, i know we need law and order in society, but do i agree with the way they nabbed you..no..but at least they pulled you over, and not from a speed camera, that in my opinion, don`t save lives, only fill the coffers.

Healsville, Victoria, Black Spur. The practicly live in the bush. I almost reckon the trees have eyes down there. I've seen a few riding around on rat bikes and unroadworthy cars just to blend in. Don't be surprised if one day a bloke pulls up beside you on a 250 and askes you to pullover.

Travelled through the Black Spur many times when I lived in Melb'. My ex's uncle had a cattle farm up near Alexandra. Beautiful country. I think that I never ever saw a cop in the Spur on all the trips we made. Mind you that is going back 20 odd years. Like I said. Beautiful country. Even when it snowed.

I also agree speed limits should be increased. However, they are what they are and if you exceed them you have to live with the fine.
It also isn't just the riders problem if he comes of. It is also the incredibly high medical costs to the government to repair him/her..... but thats another argument

Re: speeding unsportsmanlike
The Black Spur at the end of a long weekend for most people. The end of the Holidays for a lot of people. A tourist road that has a bend named "Ambulance Corner". A road that has a single white line all the way along. A road that in the last couple of years has had the speed limit reduced to 80km/h.
I expect to see coppers and license checks every time I ride it and I have every time bar one.
It’s easy to creep over 80km/h but it’s one of the roads where you say to yourself the "dickheads have spoilt this" and that’s a burden we all have to carry.
There are roads that are more fun with less police presence. They’re the ones we keep to ourselves

Re: speeding unsportsmanlike
I think its a sign of the times and the front number plates debacle that was driven by Victoria was symptomatic of the control mentality being driven by police.
In the NT we used to have open speed limits. That changed a few years ago and the year after limits were introduced (reduced to 130) our fatality rate nearly doubled. That was also due to the NT Traffic section getting decimated at the time - resources put into crime and majority of those fatalities were remote area rollovers etc. Things have changed again (since our fatality rate is widely published one of the worst in the developed world) and there's now a much bigger visible and unmarked police presence on the road in the greater Darwin region environs. I was riding home on a fairly empty bit of the highway a couple of months back. Some knob in a black Subaru was playing silly buggers with me tailgating, overtaking, playing cat and mouse. I pulled up at the lights and a black honda (with very dark tint) pulls up next to me Joining the subaru behind me (we were the only 3 vehicles). I decided to get some distance and took of HARD. Honda eventually catches up and sits on my tail, changes lanes a couple of times (I'd slowed to about 110) and then ultimately on come those pesky hidden blue and reds and we have a little chat. She was a little cross - telling me I was doing 120 in a 100 zone (I was relieved cos I knew I had been going a tad quicker before she caught up). So I bit my tongue and simply apologised and waited for the book to come out (3 points and $450 fine), but she said - i won't book you - take the warning and slow down. I did. Pretty fair in the scheme of things. A week later - same nice lady sitting beside me at the lights in her black honda. I'm on a different bike. She took off like a bat out of hell, I took off real gentle, old mate in a Typhoon ute behind her rises to the challenge and darts around her and streaks past - on come the lights. Entrapment? Me thinks maybe. My fuel economy has improved on the commute recently...
As 4WA says - there are roads with less enforcement presence, and I guess they exist in every state, and they're best kept to ourselves.

Re: speeding unsportsmanlike
Haven't been done by an undercover car before BUT.....
One trip back from Gladstone to Brisbane I had my Aunt with me (50+ yrs old). We were driving my Eunos 30x.
North of Miriamvale I got pulled over by an officer doing 109km/h in 100km/h zone. Got a ticket. Ouch.
South of Gympie just before the 90 zone my aunt was pulled over doing 118km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Cop let her off.....
Asshole.... Why couldn't I have been let off..... Aunt still thinks it was because the cop felt sorry for her having to drive a long distance with her nephew in his sports car....
BTW, the car was really easy to speed in. Smooth and quiet with a 1.8L v6 it flew.....

Both the Black Spur and Reefton Spur are well known for that tactic unfortunately. And they lowered the speed limit as well to maximise their revinue intake.

Probably this is the only time I will agree with you, the dickheads have spoilt it for others , one tooth off front sprocket guessing the correct speed with no speedo healer getting done for alleged 86 but booked for 84 on a hwy which should and used to be 100 klms per hour now its a poxy 80 and the fact the dirty turds were hiding in the hills with bino's it just dont seem right to me, pisses me off how is that saving lives only thing ive done is paid for a new door on the next police station they buy with our speeding fines where they should be using the money for driver / rider education to stop the dickheads who cant drive rooting it for others , ok off my soapbox but it just aint right.

Particularly on weekends apparently. I'm lucky enough to mainly ride during the week and I've never seen a cop yet up there.

I still wonder
I got done by a handheld radar gun in Mackay.
Pulled over and the cop was very proud of his "kill" with the gun displaying 85 in a 60 zone.
Realising I was not going to win I went into "brown-nose" mode.
The cop said he thought I sounded like a reasonable person and reduced the offence back from 85 to 80. It still cost me $200 and 3 points (ouch!)
As I rode home I wondered what other info was on the screen. I think the time and date are included.
At the time I was too busy "brown-nosing" to consider looking closer at the display.
I honestly do not believe I would have been doing anymore than 75.
I wonder if the radar gun had previously recorded an 85 reading and I was shown this outdated information
Just wondering
