Jenolan Caves 23,24,25th March 2012
a few of us Southern NSW Riders on the 24th March are going for a ride to jenolan caves for the week end, leave merimbula up to the bay up the clyde to braid wood across to goulbourn then to oberon and to the caves, Stay over night at a TBA duck over to Bathurst for a run around the mountain and then home via the same way, Should be a cracker ride i know a few of you live along the way and it would be great if you could join us

I live on that route after Taralga. It sounds like a good run. I'm thinking I might join you on the Sunday. I will ride out to the caves in the morning, meet you and do the Bathurst run and return trip back to Taralga. Will keep an eye on this post and depending on whats happening around that time,( I may be on call with work), I would love to do the run. I hope it works in my favour.

I'm interested in this but am also planning a 200km solo kayak trip around the same time and it would be bloody hard work paddling my way up those mountains. I will see how timing works out.

I've put it in my calendar! Will look at bringing the camera for shots up the Mt.

I'm going to see what I can do about organising an overnighter from the Newcastle end, on the 24th.

Re: Jenolan Caves 23,24,25th March 2012
ok guys here's our travel itinerary done by my good mate Tony
I’ve been checking out the maps etc. Working out the route for our weekend away and this is what I’ve come up with.
Friday 23rd March (approx 540K’s)
Merimbula – Batemans Bay- Braidwood- Goulburn- Taralga – Oberon – Jenolan Caves - “Hampton Half Way House” .
The half way house is a basic Hotel/Motel between the Caves & Lithgow. Not far from the Caves, for those that might wish to stop, stretch their legs, checking out the stalagmites & tights. Cath & I have stayed there before , clean accommodation, good food, cold beer and of course the obligatory Pool table. Refer to link below.

Saturday 24th (approx 600K’s).
Hampton- Tarana- O’Connell- Bathurst- Sofala- Ilford- Rylstone- Bylong- Sandy Hollow – Merriwa ( that’s if you don’t want to turn around and headback up the Bylong Valley Way) –Ulan-Mudgee- Lue-Rylstone- Ilford- Sofala – Bathurst – Rockley.
As you want to do a lap around Mt Panaroma, I thought Rockley would be a good place to pull up stumps, as its only a stone’s throw away. (As your lapping the track I might just head straight to our accommodation - I’m curious to see if the fax I sold them 23 years or so ago is still working). Never stayed there, but have had a few meals & beers there over the years.

Otherwise if your game to travel another 90k’s the Taralga Hotel is worth a visit. (Saying that its changed hands in the past 6 or so months, but on past visits a good time was always had by all.)

Sunday 25th ( either 500 0r 400ks depending on where you want to stay Saturday Night.)
xx- Goulburn- Down the Clyde- Narooma (Lunch) – Merimbula.
There’s a lot of good places/pubs to stay around the Central West Region, biggest problem is that most don’t have alot of accommodation.
If there was only a couple of us I’d wing it and not bother booking anything, but based on the fact that you said you’ve got a few starters (and I may have one or two) I suggest its best to book.
I’m happy to do this on behalf of all, to ensure that we’ve got sufficient rooms, but I’ll be saying to the Publicans only to hold on to the rooms for a week- which will give everyone that wants to tag along time to call confirm room , pay etc etc. If you can give let me know by next weekend who’s in/out etc I make the bookings.

Jim, I don't mind the odd can of solo, but my kayaking is much more sedentry. I am more a flat water touring kayaker.
As for the ride, it loks like it wil conflict with family holidays.
Have fun fellas.

Re: Jenolan Caves 23,24,25th March 2012
Sorry all, but I can't meet up with you as I had previously posted. I'm stuck having to go to South Aus for 3 to 4 weeks tomorrow for work. Thus won't be back in time for this trip. I hope you all have a blast. Look out for a concrete weir, 90 deg right turn about 17 or 18ks past Taralga, heading to Oberon, Currueela Creek, (although it is signposted wrong. It should read Curraweela Creek.) You will have just passed my place. I look forward to a ride report. Cheers.
