words of a different era
I was reading the paper the other day & there was one of those columns about what happened in a certain year gone by .
The article was about a trial period to change Rundle street into a mall to give it a " gay " atmosphere ; something you need to go to the gardens to find in todays world . Even Johnny Okeefe sang to us to be happy & gay .Pot was a container to put food , plants , or human waste in( & kept under the bed till morning) / certainly nothing I would like to smoke ; & weed was something never for smoking but rather something to put in the compost heap .
It occurred to me that there must be loads of words which have completely changed meaning ,some of which make the original context of a statement comical .
My mum used to say to us if we had been caught in the rain that we were as wet as a shag on a rock meaning a bird back then but a different kind of bird now days would apply .
Think of any others ?

"Bandit". Used to be someone that robbed you. Then it changed to a machine with one arm that still robbed you. Now it is a motorcycle that makes you think you saved money but in the end it has robbed you as well. Oh well. Never mind.

Which also makes me wonder who decided the female anatomy looks like a beaver or pussy / either all the women I`ve known must have been deformed as the resemblance wasn`t there or there are some people out there with some very strange secrets . Not to mention the term snatch which makes me more than a little worried about what I put any where near it !

Well He said he was there for a "short" time. So I guess we can make of that what we want.

I don't know about a different era, but certianly a different country. Years ago a relative from the UK was visiting. One evening it was decided that some cheese and biscuits were in order. The my Aunts horror dad says to me "Michael, go get the COON out of the fridge."
