The push pedal on my centrestand is 12mm above the swingarm. The gap between the shock and the centrestand is 8mm and the shock has never made contact with it. When I got the bike the stand flapped in the breeze coz there was no bump rubber on it. I ended up putting a bump rubber 13mm thick on the bracket on the yoshi muffler. The bracket sits tucked out of the way so it doesn't look out of place.

the only time my heel touches the centrestand is if I move my foot back so the ball of my foot is on the foot peg but then if I move my right foot that far back that heel touches the exhaust ( which I sometimes do on a longer ride ) normally I have my foot a bit more forward toward the centre of my foot on the foot peg .

Well it seems that it is a 330 ohm resistor with a tolerance of 5% so the only missing part of the puzzle is the wattage.
Without knowing the circuit.

In a worst case say the whole 12volts is across the resistor, the current is give by V/R ie 12 divided by 330 approx 0.037 amps.

Power is VxI 12 times 0.037 equals 0.444W so a half watt resistor would do, but to allow for the fact that the bikes voltage can go higher than 12V a 1W resistor if you can get it.

Does the resistor have to be earthed to the frame or can it just "float " ?

The wattage rating of the resistor will dictate how well it handles heat buildup. A resistor doesn't get earthed as such, but the higher wattage ones have a metal case or backing that if bolted to the frame help dissipate any heat buildup. They are pretty robust things and referred to as a chassis mount resistor. They are available at high wattage ratings and my preference is 120W to give you the greatest current rating. Probably overkill, but you can bolt them to things.
