Hi Guys
Just tried ordering tyres from Jake Wilson. No good, As you get through the check out a yellow box comes up with
Your order contains restricted items that cannot ship to chosen address. The items are two tyres.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Tyres from Jake Wilson
I ahve no personal experience ordering tyres from Jake wilson, but talking to some that have, there are some brands of tyre that jake wilson will not ship to Oz apparently. Perhaps that is the reason.
Eiither that or the importers in Oz have put the hard word on jake wilsons suppliers who ahve put the hard word on jake wilson.
Either way it looks like we in oz might be back to being screwed by those money hungry fuckers that imported/distribute the motorbike goods in this country.

Re: Tyres from Jake Wilson
Why go for road 2's when Road 3's are available?
I imported 2 x Bridgestone Battlax 023 not long ago without a problem from the same site. I even have $50 credit with them for being such a good customer

Ok guys.
The Jake Wilson site will only let me purchase Bridgestones or Dunlops.
So I need to rethink.

Re: Tyres from Jake Wilson
I managed to purchase PR3's through them earlier this year. Me thinks that Michelin have been putting the squeeze on to halt their profit losses in Australia. Total cost $460 inc fitting from JW (not the fitting of course ). Price in Australia at the time $650 Hmmmmmmm....

Re: Tyres from Jake Wilson
I never had the opportunity to try the BT023's so can't comment on those, but I did like the BT016F/BT021R combo I had on the bike when I sold it.
Thought the 016 at the front gave good grip and for me made the front feel that little bit more stable compared to the 021 I had on it before that, but I was heavy on the front.
The 016 is what Bridge call a 3 layer compound tyre (sides different to centre) and gave what I consider to be good and even wear across the tyre face.
I can't comment on tyre life as I didn't end up wearing it out, but I was expecting (hoping for) around the 7000km mark. You might want more out of a tyre tho.
The 021 on the back never caused me too many problems apart from in the wet, and then it was mostly when it started to rain or it'd only been raining a short while and the road was in that "in between" world or crapness. After 7-8000kms (from memory) the center had started to square off a bit, but it didn't seam to effect handling too badly. I was expecting to get to the 12-14000km mark before changing it.

Emailed Jake Wilson's & this was their reply;
Thank you for your interest in our company. Unfortunately due to dealer agreements between Pirelli/Metzler/Michelin and their distributors in Australia we are not allowed to ship to your country at this time. We are hoping in the future this will change. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

The 023's are a good tyre, although these are my first matched pair. The 021's before were fine, but did square off after say 6-6500kms. If you are nicer on the throttle they'll be fine. The front 021 lasts much longer, probably 10000+ km's where it ends up in the shape of an arrow head with wear especially bad just off centre, which you'd expect from a heavy bike.

Tyres from Jake Wilson
Yeah, I think the days of cheaper tryes from the US of A are numbered.
I brought a set of PR2s from a fellow that buys in and sells bike tyres, a bit cheaper than the bike shops. He was saying that he can't get Perrelli or Metzler to sell, from the USA
because the Australian distributor complained, not getting his cut I suppose. Guess Michilin has had a complaint aswell.
I wander how long before Dunlop & Bridgestone go the same way?

Maybe we should drop the Trade Practices Commissioner a line and inquire whether this could be construed as a restriction of trade?

It would be a deal the Aust importers have with the manufacturers.
Similar to a Macas franchise where the franchise owners are protected from another opening up close by. The interweb makes everyone close.
My 2c take on it.

Re: Tyres from Jake Wilson
I thought I'd get in before JW close the door on the Bridgestones as well. I just grabbed another set of BT023's, that's 2 sets sitting in the garage now. That will be another 20,00km of riding for around $500 in rubber.
I have run the 23's on my FA now for about 6000km. (Got 11000km out of the OEM 21s) They are probably around ½ worn and showing a good even wear pattern. They have done 1 track day in that mix. I reckon value for $ you can't go past them. Good wear & reasonably good all round traction. After all we are talking riding Bandits here not Motogp machines.
I brought a static balancer & bead breaking jig from JW some time back, so I can can change my own tyres & save some $.
Long live the free trade?

Re: Tyres from Jake Wilson
yeh have fitted my 023's up. Had my local motor bike shop change the tyres over $37.00 the pair wheels only.
It will be interesting to see how many kms i get out of them. PR2 tyres got 11,000km.

I only got 9000km's out of PR2's. Depends on road surface and right wrist. Some of the back roads I ride on are extremely rough.
The 023's are winners. I also have the static balancer and bead breaker from Jakewilson and it makes changing tyres piss easy with a decent set of levers and soapy water.
