Chain and sprockets.
Ive got 37,000 kak on my c & s . The most i get on my other bike is about 18,000 . I know a 4 inline gives smoother power so longer life but
what sort of mileage (kilometerage ? ) are people getting before replacenent .Either my chain maintenance is good or these chains ar tough ?

Re: Chain & Sprockets
Almost 7000 on the bandit, but the 1979 900 Honda has still got it's second ever chain and sprockets on it. The trick is to run the chain in steady to get even stretch over the whole length of the chain. And keep up the lube. I never clean the chain on the Honda. I only ever used SaBesto 2000 from Wurth, it's a high pressure spray on synthetic grease. The younger brother only ever got 2000 out of a chain until I told him how to run it in.

What brand of chanin & sprockets do you guys recommend? Are the non-OEM brands better than the standard and if so, how?

WWW.CHAINGANGCHAINSANDSPROCKETS.COM.AU are the best but more expensive . Their sprockets last at least twice as long though .

Re: Chain and sprockets.
I bought a rear sproket ONLY from them as i wanted a certain number of teeth .(Aprilia) After time the chain and FRONT sproket wore out .
The rear was so perfect i re-used it , which i have never done before .It still shows no sign of wear after another 10,000 kays .

I've got a Scotoiler V5 to go on this week. Last time I looked at the sprockets, the front was starting to show some wear, probably due to a heavy right wrist, the rear looked ok though.

Re: Chain and sprockets.
Have you got a smaller front sprocket Reddog ? Yes you do 17 front. When i got my Aprilia it had a 17 front .Only time you used 6th was 140 kph +.
I asked dealer 1st service to put on one tooth less (normal procedure ).Dealer worked out 17-1= 15 . It eat the chain in no time at all . I only
realised what they had done when i replaced the c @ s myself and counted the teeth .One tooth should be ok but 2 was too much for the
chain to handle .

Re: Chain and sprockets.
Yeah 17 is okay. If you wanted smaller I'd add teeth to the rear instead.
The OEM chain on the bandit has so far lasted okay. When it becomes noisy like my old GPX because of stiff links I'll bother replacing it.
Now I just have to get the time to go out and fit the Scottoiler. Looks like a good piece of kit for $100 landed
