A Nice Loud Noise!
G'day all,
Thinking about fitting one of these....
I had one on my last bike, and it was great....
Why do they put such anaemic, pissy little horns on bikes as standard.....?
Oh, maybe cos' some shiny-bummed bureaucrat in Can'tberra decided we can't afford to offend anybody with a loud horn!
Bugger the safety; as long as we don't upset anybody with a loud noise!
Sheesh.....!

Still no substitute for lane position and defensive riding.
Cages are pretty well sound proof these days. Just ask an Ambo or other emergency service driver.

Horns don't work no matter how loud they are.
Just ask the stupid santa claus, white beard wearing, deaf blind ignorant dumb git that was trying to get into my lane at a roundybout while I was on the horn looking directly the twat and swearing my head off and just prior to kicking his mirror off the side of his land cruiser.

That's the type of driver that knew you were there but didn't give a f¿ck about you. I don't condone mirror-ectomies but I share your rage.

+1 It's really the only way. I have reacted in many ways in the past, some violent and just not getting into the situation wins hands down, IMHO.

Have to agree with the above, they can't hurt if your not available for them to hurt you. I can understand the need for a loud horn to scare away critters though, particularly in the NT.Saikhan wrote:2wheelsagain wrote:Still no substitute for lane position and defensive riding.

Re: A Nice Loud Noise!
Interesting point.
I've been pretty lucky with close encounters vis-a-vis the wildlife and self up here in the Top End thus far (well, there was the Brolga that came through the windscreen.....)
Interestingly, I've found the most effective incentive to getting them moving is to flash the high-beam! Maybe it looks like a couple of big eyes, or they just don't like the bright light, but they tend to move once you flash 'em..... unless it's a Wedge-Tail Eagle, who will "guard" their kill to the bitter end. The worst are the darned Kites who take forever to take-off, use the road as a runway, then circle straight back in to your path
You've also gotta' watch out for horses, camels, dingos and our indigenous brethren, who dress in dark clothes and sleep on the bitumen cos' it's nice n' warm on a cold, Dry Season night!

Having grown up about hour and a half flying time to your east I have a few things I could add that will bring a smile to most, but as I'm a PC kinda person - won'tand our indigenous brethren, who dress in dark clothes and sleep on the bitumen cos' it's nice n' warm on a cold, Dry Season night!
