Well I spent a little time today doing a noise test on my bandit that is fitted with the beowulf muffler. the dB killer was in the pipe for the test.
I only did the stationary bit of the test and it was in my back yard, but it was interesting to see the results.
I did it more out of curiosity than anything else

The bandit at the same RPM as stated on the plate (on the frame at the front just under the LH side of the tank) got to 90dBA

Oddly when I checked the gsx650f which has the same pipe fitted to it, the reading was a little louder at 92dBA. One thing that makes this the case is the fact the GSX650F is tested at a much higher RPM (5700 compared to 3700 or there abouts)

AFAIK this makes the pipe road legal (I'll look into this more to be sure)

I might even take the time to do stationary tests without the dB killer fitted to see how much louder it is.

A good bit of info mate.
Even without the baffle out I dont think there is much difference at idle but a test at 3700 without it would be good to see/hear.
The main difference I noticed without the baffle was a deeper note under load and more snap, crackle & pop (made me want to ride faster!).
I'm running around with the baffle in place but if on a group ride I may take it out as I'd have a bigger penis then Laughing

Righto,

Noise without baffles fitted (tested same as 1st test)

1250 bandit - 92.8 dBA
GSX650F - 94.7 dBA

Now the interesting bit. According to the info on how to take the measurement, you round DOWN to the nearest whole number so the pipe without baffle on the 650 would just make it into the legal zone. Although I recon my plod would err on the side of caution and send you for a checkup.in both cases once he sees no baffle fitted.

Rule of 3's

3 dBA increase = twice as loud (well, kinda)
