Keith to Adelaide
235 kms. 12.8 litres Vortex 95 $17.27 5.5 l/100 kms.
Total Kilometres: 1545.7
Total Fuel (Litres): 86.85
Average consumption: 5.6 litres / 100 kms.
Total Cost: $123.84
Average cost of petrol per litre: $1.43 – Premium unleaded
Travel time including stops – 10 hrs. to Melbourne; 8.5 hrs. Melbourne to Adelaide
Strong head-wind on the way to Melbourne, and as I didn't know how accurate the speedo was I stayed close to what it showed.
On the way home I had calibrated the speedo as reading 6 kph slow, so I mostly travelled at 106 or 116 indicated. This time the strong wind was mostly across, but also had a following component i.e. I was travelling NW and the wind was SE.

Re: More fuel consumption data
Good job, thanks for sharing the info. Don't recall seeing any pics in the pictures thread tho :-)
Roughly the same as an overall average of what I get on both the 1250 and the 650
Be interesting if someone was to do a similar thing using standard ULP to compare

Good info, question though, what load (if any) was carried and what tyre pressures did you run? STD unleaded for me on a trip from home to central VIC and back, at about posted limits, yeilds about 5.4 L/100KM.

Re: More fuel consumption data
Only a few photos - in other section re. locusts. I really want to work out a way to use my tiny Apple Nano (last years model) video whilst riding.
I had a small back pack on (loaded with fruit cakes as Christmas presents!) and another backpack okky strapped to the pillion position. I would be 115 kgs. (not proud ) and the packs probably only added another 10 kgm. Tyre pressures were checked and adjusted before leaving - 38 psi front and 42 psi rear. Checked on return and the rear had dropped to 41 psi. - although this is probably within the error range of the guage.
UPDATE:
Went for a slightly vigourous ride today with my wife as pillion - total load about 200 kgs. - through the hills to Victor Harbor and return via. Yankallila. 203 kms. and 11.56 litres to refill.
Great ride and most acceptable fuel consumption!
I only use premium fuel because I am buying such small quantaties at any one time that I can't get over the psychological impression that it is cheap! My mind tells me that standard unleaded would work equally as well - I have had some tankfulls of standard with no detectable difference.
QUESTION:
There can be weeks between rides for me - does standard petrol remain 'fresher' for longer than premium, or is it vice versa? Someone told me that premium is a little more volatile and therefore evaporates slightly quicker.

First tank:
169 km - 9.74 liters - BP Premium - $15.67 ($1.60/l) - 5.8 km/l (17.35 km/l)
Yes, fuel is bloody expensive in Darwin!

While your bike is new it will use more fuel but save your cash and run a quality 91 octane.
5.4 - 5.6km/l on a touring trip for me @ 91 octane.

Getting quality 91 octane fuel in Darwin is a bit of an issue.... For some reason, it's all crappy up here, especially Shell for some reason, hence I run all my (two! ) vehicles on Premium.

Fair enough mate. I thought that might be the case
