Outer Sprocket Cover -How to abuse your tools
Hi All
Decided to flush and bleed the clutch/brake fluid.
Simple enough job remove the Outer Sprocket Cover. Well that's if the 3 Button head 6mm bolts want to come out.
The bottom Button Head was already rounded off so an Allen Key did nothing.
Thought maybe use my little center punch and create a dent then hit at an angle.
Well a long T30 bit got the job done.
Five hits to embed it into the alloy bolt then 10mm ring spanner to turn while impacting.
Not even a mark on the T30 bit so who said i abuse my tools.
Have now replaced all 3 Alloy bolts with Stainless 304.

I think I've used more Torx bits this way than on actual real life torx screws

I wish everything was either a 6 point star or a 12 point cap bolts.

Can't do that with stainless, then again, probably cheap worn allen keys that did the damage.

Re: Outer Sprocket Cover -How to abuse your tools
a few years I broke the ball off the end of my Allen key, yep, I know, I should have picked up standard key to crack it first but you know what it's like when you're in a hurry
As hard as I treed I couldn't get the ball out, I tried a magnet, bouncing it with a small pin punch. it was the deepest one (the other 2 I used the short flat end)
I ended up ordering a cover and new bolts (min 10 so I have spares) online from overseas, IIRC it cost me about $75 for a few seconds of stupidity/laziness.
Once I'd destroyed the old cover I was able to loosen the screw with a cold chisel
