Bike stolen
Well, I'm a victim of theft, and have lost my Gen1 Bandit.
I'm out of town at the moment working, and Friday night Saturday morning, it was taken. Second in command at home woke up in the morning to find it gone.
Got to say....not F####ng happy. I spent alot of time and money getting the bike to how I like it, and was my main source of transportation. Weekend jaunts to extended touring. I new the bikes previous owners, so knew it's roots of treatment, along wirh my anal maintenance schedules. It was at 161000k's , and the engine gearbox package was perfect.
I've done the formalities, police, but I can't see me getting it back. I'm possibly thinking it will be parted out, so I'll be watching the usual sources for second hand parts and go from there.

Re: Bike stolen
Sorry to hear that brother
Insurance?
Not that It helps your cause, was it a similar vintage the one in the thread below? I was thinking of buying it and flipping it. I haven't seen it for some time so I'm not 100% sure of it's condition(it will have some surface rust on chrome). I do know it's unreg and hasn't been ridden for years but only has around 50something thousand k's on it and will need tyres(hard). The owner was talking about taking a Gorilla for it........but I might be able to haggle him down a bit.
If you were interested I could snare some more recent pics, and I could fix the guy up for it and bring home so you could arrange delivery from my place.
Good luck finding yours.

Re: Bike stolen
Thanks for empathy response Paul and rodent4.
Yeah was insured, but red book will be next to nothing.
Yes rodent, Gen1.
Is that original k's on that one? As they've got analogue gauges they only go up to 100k before start again.
Yeah I'm interested...what part of the world is it at ?

Re: Bike stolen
The guy who has it has no reason to bullshit to me so I assume the 50something is factual. It's in Melbourne, so I'm guessing around $300 to ship.
Being as it's Easter I'm not sure if the guy is at work or off for a bit, but if you were interested I'd be more than happy to take pics and purchase if necessary.
My brother and I have been bike guys our whole lives so we have an idea what to look for
If you're serious let me know and I'll snare some pics.
PS: I haven't spoke with the guy about it recently, so I'm assuming he still has it.

Re: Bike stolen
Cheers rodent4.
Yeah I'm interested, if you don't mind going and having a look....pics would be good.
If you do go look at it, could you look inside the tank first up. If it's been sitting along time the tank could be badly rusted inside.
Check the brake discs to see if there's a lip on the them. If there is it means new discs for road worthy.
See if the ignition lock works.
Take the seat off and check the rear panels for broken tabs....The gen1's are renowned for this. Some are barely holding on and need the seat to hold them in place. Also front fairings for cracks.
I guess it will need a new battery. Would be good to know if the fuel gauge works along with typical electrics.
Check the brakes and clutch as best you can for leaks or pumping for pressure.
Chain rusty and stuffed.
Any major rust on/in the frame.
Engine case for drops.
If the bike has been sitting tor along time, the carbs will have to be rebuilt as the o-rings dry out and cause leaks.
"This can be bad if there's by-pass at the needle and seat and if the fuel tap also leaks. It can cause hydraulic lock and bend valves if it hasn't been regularly started. Not saying it will, but Gen1 carbs are temperamental and don't take much to screw up. Personally, if I do buy it, and I am serious about it, I'd take the plugs out first and turn it over before start up as a precaution. This means taking the tank off, or the front fairings...you can't get to the plugs otherwise.
Totally appreciate you doing this if you're up for it.
There would have to be a bit of money spent on it to get it to road worthy, so sale price is a major factor, along with freight.

No sweat, I haven't seen the guy yet anyhow as I believe he's on leave. Good luck with your new beast and post up some pics.

No mate, I've come to the conclusion it's gone forever.
Certainly prompted me into home security though.
I think it's a local person that's been watching me, so they'd better think twice before entering my property again, as an ambulance maybe needed.

Re: Bike stolen
It was stolen from your house?
From experience, the same thieves usually return after you buy new gear...........be vigilant.

Re: Bike stolen
The theft of your bike sux big time mtb!
I will keep an eye out up this way just in case the person who stole it decides to take it for a test ride.
Good Luck on the new steed and hopefully the return of the old Bandit.
