This is dangerous and how I ended up with the Diversion! Not that I regret that purchase for one minute - she goes onto classic registration next time.

Gus, quick question - the kick start only option bikes you are fixing. Do you kick-start them to get them going or do you have some invention that does it for you?
The reason I ask, I've got a KLX kick start only option and my right leg is now significantly bigger than my left from the kick starting. I was wondering how you do it?

Regards.

I had a KLR250 when I was 15/16, got my licence on it.

That bastard had one hell of a kick back with no decompression, I'll never forget the bruises and scrapes to my RH calf and my ankle, must have torn the side out of at least 1/2 dozen pairs of sand shoes

Hey Gents,
no decompression lever on my 96 KLX 650. Don't know if it ever had one.
I should have been clearer, the bike is temperamental in starting. I've had the bike for over a year and it has never started easy. I bought a can of Start ya bastar_ and got it going. Last week it started first or second kick without the can of SYB.
This week not starting at all.
It's never kicked back. My right leg is bigger due to the kick start action and "muscle" build up :-)

I've got an old 86 KLR600 as well. Right now I'm considering selling both - AArgh!

Maybe the KLX forums maybe able to help , but from what I just looked up , there is an automatic decompression mechanism fitted , which sometimes needs a spring to your exhaust valve replaced . The klx mob may have also come across the hard to start issue .

Excellent! At least you've got the advantage of being mechanically able to diagnose a problem. My resource is this forum.

Thanks All, I'm off to the shed to commence kicking a KLX.
