13th/14th December, madmax riding into Adelaide
Bryan is leaving Melbourne on on Wednesday 13th in, I'm meeting him in Naracoorte that afternoon. (anyone else that wants to tag along, we've booked into the Bushman Hotel, $60 pn, bikes locked in Grog shed)
Thursday we will be heading in to Adelaide Via the Coorong and Fleurieu Peninsula, pretty sure paul will meet us at either Wellington or Strath, if anyone else wants to welcome him to some good riding roads, keep an eye out here for ETA
the ride in will be something like this

Re: 13th/14th December, madmax riding into Adelaide
OK, thought you were doing a overnighter in Halls Gap
Do you want to do a dash for Naracoorte and try and do the caves since we missed out on the Edenhope meet-up?
I know it'd make a pretty big day for you, Google Maps is telling me 5 hr 45 on the Western Highway or 6 hrs around the bottom of the Grampians.
For me it's under 4 hours so I'll leave it up to you.

My route is something similar to what we did, but I'm cutting up to Halls Gap instead of coming up through the bottom.
Then through the Zumsteins and east towards Edenhope and Naracoorte.
Something like this

Probably this side of the wellington punt , if timing is right , or at the cafe by the old railway station in Strathalbyn if it's not .madmax wrote:paul wrote:I put the 14th in the diary , does that work out ok ?madmax wrote:paul wrote:Yep ...........put it in the diary at work ...................gotta love a day off a week before you retire

How about our side of the Wellington Ferry, if we could fluke a not so full run across the river it could be a good photo opportunity
BTW paul, "punt" , now you're showing your age, last person I heard call one of the ferries a punt was my old man and he passed away over 23 years ago

According to google maps that is 3h 18m from Naracoorte. At a guess I'd say around 11am.

I blame Gerry and the pacemakers ................if they had stuck to " so punt cross the Mersey " instead of changing it to " ferry cross the Mersey " none of this would have ever come about .Chook wrote:paul wrote:Probably this side of the wellington punt , if timing is right , or at the cafe by the old railway station in Strathalbyn if it's not .madmax wrote:paul wrote:I put the 14th in the diary , does that work out ok ?madmax wrote:paul wrote:Yep ...........put it in the diary at work ...................gotta love a day off a week before you retire

See what the weather is doing, as Naracoorte is about as far East as you can go in SA the sun is up considerably earlier than Adelaide (you'll notice a even bigger difference by the time we get to Pt Lincoln and Penong)
If it's going to be a stinking hot day we may want to head off a bit earlier, Sunrise there is 5:40, we could easily be gone by 6:30 - 7:00 to beat the heat if needed
Can always text you as we're leaving paul, if you allow 3 hrs for us you'd be pretty close I reckon

Long range forecast for Adelaide is 26 deg.

That's what I was thinking, text Paul as we are leaving, as it could be 6:30 - 8:00 whatever.
Just saying it could around 11 when we catch up with you Paul. We wont know for certain until the day.

If the long range forecast has any credibility we may be looking to dodge the rain instead of keeping out of the heat, 2 different sites, one 21 max with showers, the other 20 and cloudy
Re: 13th/14th December, madmax riding into Adelaide
paul, any chance of you joining us for across through Williamstown, the Barossa and may be Clare?
You could be back home by early afternoon.

Re: 13th/14th December, madmax riding into Adelaide
I would be ok to go to the Barossa Saturday morning

Here - Williamstown - Whispering Wall, Tanunda, Menglers Hill Rd to Angaston, Nuri, Kapunda, Tarlee
Pick where ever you want to leave us on the day
After that it'll be Clare, possibly via Mintaro depending on how we're going for time
Would like to be in Crystal Brook or a bit further for lunch
Re: 13th/14th December, madmax riding into Adelaide
Last day of work today until the day after Boxing Day
A week ago we had a mini heat wave with temperatures in the mid to high 30s for a few days, this week it's been much cooler and plenty of drizzle/rain
the forecast for next Wednesday is 35 in Adelaide, 34 in Naracoorte after a cooler Tuesday, mm should start the day in mild weather and finish relatively warm, it's not going to last though, the ride into Adelaide could be a bit chilly, 20-22 maximums at various places we'll pass through with 30% chance of rain, the route I'm planning into Adelaide, if it's 30% chance in Adelaide it's a higher chance down there, looks like I'll have to pack wet weather gear

Re: 13th/14th December, madmax riding into Adelaide
That forecast ended up a bit conservative
Tomorrow's forecast is now 39 before a afternoon cooler change
Naracoorte is also 39 with a afternoon change and chance of a shower, Murray Bridge through to Keith on the Dukes Hwy are all expecting a max of 40
Bryan is leaving Melbourne early enough to hopefully arrive in Naracoorte about 4:00, I've got a (normally) 3 1/2 - 4 he ride, taking a short detour via Bordertown to catch up with a unwell relative, probably get going about 10, after a expected minimum of 25 it'll be well into the mid 30s by the

Re: 13th/14th December, madmax riding into Adelaide
I'm heading off early, about to leave, it's nearly 9:00am and already 33 in Adelaide, expecting it to be at least 4-5 deg warmer an hour up the road around Murray Bridge
madmax and spanner were leaving before 5:00 so I suspect they are well on the way after 4 1/2 hours
