“The best quality product in the market in Australia today is probably the stuff in Aldi.

The results are a bit of a worry.
That "There are no standards nor any accredited testing facilities in Australia" isn't too flash either.

Let's hope Australia doesn't try and implement anything. It'll be a disaster just like the Australian helmet laws.

I'm going to take that with a grain of salt. If they aren't going tell the public who is best/worst then it shouldn't have been made public knowledge.

Anything that poses a risk to the end user should be published, to put out a teaser with nothing to makes a safer choice with is bad form IMOmadmax wrote:I'm going to take that with a grain of salt. Maybe they don't want to upset their advertisers / sponsors

This is their claimed reasons
Dr Liz de Rome, Deakin University wrote:“We will not be publicly releasing the names of the brands we tested. It would be unethical and unfair. The aim was to inform and spur action by government to support the development of the five-star rating system, not to name and shame industry who are often as much in the dark as their customers.
“There are no standards nor any accredited testing facilities in Australia. We will release the results of individual products to their manufacturers on a confidential basis to help them in quality improvement.
“We are supporting industry by determining the thresholds for injury protection and thermal comfort, to set guidelines for products that are fit for purpose.

A bit of naming and shaming would "spur them into action" methinks!

Re: 8 out of 10 motorcycle gear fails abrasion tests
The only real way to test a garment properly is to CRASH in it .Most testers are not willing to jump off at 100 kph so they test a patch on a sanding machine . That's not what happens yet alone if a tree or car are involved .
I wear reinforced jeans sometime and I know they are not as good as my leather pants just by the feel of them .
I bought a "proper " back insert for my leather jacket because a thin piece of foam is obviously useless .
If your gear feels thin ,then you don't need a document to tell you it probably not much good .You don't need to be told finger-less gloves are not the best option .
Its better than a t-shirt ,shorts and thongs though .
