Bike Magazines .. Empty Bike Magazines ..

Post  gus Fri 27 Nov 2015, 9:35 pm

I used to be a bit of a bike mag junkie .After a while ,a lot bored me with pages of lies, and junk road tests .
Amcnews , I seemed to be able to read in 2 hrs ,buy the time I skipped 20 page race section, and 20 pages of adds .
Road Rider ,leaves me grumpy (not hard) with everything being ," The BEST ". A bit like that stupid dog (?) patch on the back of Ulysees  Members . Rolling Eyes

My favourite at the moment buy a mile is Classic Motorcycle Mechanics .It used to be vintage bikes but they up dated it .
Bikes from 70's .80's.and 90's .
The latest edition has articles on the 1200 Bandit front end fix .Also a tl1000s ride report .. Two of my favourite bikes .
Second favourite would be Practical Sportsbike .The bikes are not perfect because they get ridden and spending stupid money is frowned on .

Spot on Gus. The two mags you mentioned you like are the only two I've subscribed to in many years.

And (I'm not bullshitting) I was only saying to the missus the last couple of times I visited the newsagent that there is nothing in any of the current crop of Oz bike mags that makes me want to buy any of them.

I used to subscribe to a few mags and MCTrader was one of them. I can't stand the dribble printed by 2wheels (not me) and Road Rider is a glossy Honda and BMW brochure.
I still flick through in the hope I might be tempted.

To an extent, free on-line sites are potentially superseding hard-printed media. I find Bike Sales not bad for keeping up to date with developments but, like many Oz bike mags, their test reports are not critical enough in highlighting faults or simply deficiencies that exist with various bikes.  There isn't much point buying mags to get a review on a bike that you're potentially looking at to buy if the report fails to mention something that is obvious, eg poor fueling/snatchy throttle.
