Post  NZspokes Tue 17 Feb 2015, 4:45 am

Couple of years back my K1 got taken out by a driver. Always missed it.

I bought a 900 Hornet to replace it. Didnt get on with it. Then I bought a VTR1000 which I love. Im now riding track with it.

But a few years back my partner had a big accident which she has injuries from which wont heal. VTR is not working out as a pillion bike for us.

So we just bought this K4 which was a faired S version but the fairing has been removed. We are getting the fairing with the bike but not sure of its condition. I kinda like it as it is. I pick it up next Saturday. Got it for $2000. Its done 95,000ks. Motor sounds tight. It has a Holeshot kit but not sure which stage. Im guessing stage 1.

It needs tyres, decent indicators and a fork rebuild. Then I will drop the pillion pegs to start getting my girl cumfy and fit my top box as it will become my commuter.

I reckon it looks real good that way.  Stripping it down a bit would be one way to sort the pathetic lighting.

Looks good. Add a small fly screen and you'll be good to go

Yeah I think it will say that way with a flyscreen which I have. Just needs proper mirrors.

Was thinking the stiff front could just be to much spring as it was a faired one. I will have a look at the springs and see what they are.

What's wrong with the mirrors?

I've ridden a couple of bikes with little mirrors like those, I'd want to change them as well

well done mate!!

keep it naked..I reckon they look better, but..if you do a bit of touring, and do like to give it a bit every now and then, you will feel it.

I bought a gen 1 last year, and made it naked, I love it, but like I say, if you get above $1.40, you start to really feel the aerodynamics, but I didn`t, and don`t ride this one for any high speed stuff, so its no problem for me.  I guess another benefit is, you don`t get any fairing buzz, as they tend to get.

Happy ridding!!

I would see more looking under my arm.

I mentor new riders so need to be able to see whats going on behind.

That's on the list of bikes to get, the VTR!
A mate of mine has got one, and we`ve been for a few rides, and do the swap thing a bit, I really like the handling, and sitting position of the VTR.
We`ve done standing starts, and roll on`s, and the Bandit is a little quicker, but can`t compete in the handling department...god damn they use a lot of fuel, but I wont be buying one for economics.

Have you tried swapping the mirrors so they are underneath the bars?

Not got it yet, pick it up on the weekend. But want to put conventional mirrors on it.
