neutral light

hello everyone,just wondering whether anyone has had a similar issue?my 2010 bandit 1250s,sometimes,when selecting neutral,the neutral light wont activate.could it possibly be the biuild of of gunk,behind countershaft sprocket?which i have never(removed,cleaned). how does the neutral light work?some kind of micro switch?thanks for your help,regards,chris

Hi Chris, the Gear position switch is located here, item 27. 2 hex head bolts to remove, squirt some crc/wd40/inox in the switch and see how it goes:




I have just come in from doing mine, will see how it goes. Otherwise a new switch may be needed.

Hopefully just gunk - mine's done 47,000 and it sometimes gives me a false reading on the GPI.  I need to clean it.

Ok 33,000km & mine started playing up( about a month ago) ...................took it out & cleaned it with contact cleaner & after a few days it was playing up again . Ordered one at a local dealer ( not much different in price than ebay landed at my door ) .................No stock at Suzuki Aust ( for a known problem part )  
Spent the week putting it into neutral with the motor running , let the clutch out & lower the side stand a couple of inches ( i know,...inches... I'm old ) to get the neutral light to come on so I can start it the next time I need to until Mr Suzuki flew some in    . 
 Put the new part in this morning ,including a new "O" ring ( the manual says to put grease on the "O" ring prior to fitting ) & all seems to be ok ( if there is a next time, I will pull a string back through when I'm pulling the old one out to make it easier to feed the new one in ) You have to remove the regulator rectifier as well by the way . 
 I wonder if those who are having this problem are mainly commuters , giving it a bit more of a work-out  or maybe the switches just dicky .......I can't see any difference between the old & new GSX type superseded part ( doesn't the GSX show what gear your in ?) I would have thought it would be more like the gsx 1000 or 750 type  with multiple small round sensors than the GSF type   The other thing I wondered , is I have ridden in a lot of really heavy rain this winter & thought that may have some bearing on the issue.
I would have thought that after a reasonably long model run like the Bandits , with a known fault , Suzuki would have rectified it by now .

Mine still causes problems sometimes (most times) since I cleaned and lubed it. I can't be assed getting it apart again to give it another clean. Most times when I go to start the bike again, it is all good. Goes again during and after a ride. Just dealing with it....  

I cleaned mine a few times but the period between cleanings keep growing shorter.  Since replacing it with the GSX1250FA part, I have had no issues

It was similar but not identical, so there had been a change on the exterior anyway.  Not a lot in it, but I am not seeing many GSX owners with the issue
