Suggestions - Touring Vic & NSW October

I'm riding across to the Phillip Island GP with a mate and after the race we have two weeks to spare before riding back to Perth. I've flown to Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney many times so they aren't an attraction.

Do you have any suggestions for two weeks on the road around Vic and NSW? We're somewhat experienced touring riders and our accommodation will be a mix of camping and youth hostels.

Definitely going to ride The Great Ocean Road (probably do that on the way home) and a visit to Mt Kosciuszko.

It's a bit hard to know where to start Speed Dealer. If you can, get hold of a copy of the Hema Maps Australia Motorcycle Atlas 200 Top Rides. It includes descriptions and notes for many of the rides and covers both sealed and non-sealed roads. The trick is to work out routes that don't have you doubling back on yourself too much. But for my money, here's a suggestion for 2,400kms, nearly all sealed. You can walk to the top of Mt Kozzy after taking the ski chairlift from Threbdo if you like.

Two weeks sounds like a nice amount of time to see VIC and NSW. Some roads I'd suggest would be:

The Great Alpine Rd(depending on snow conditions-usually ok that time of year!) from Wangaratta to Bairnsdale, up over Mt Hotham. Its a 300km ride. Fantastic scenery and if you stay around Bright/Myrtleford you could have some great day trips to Beechworth, Kiewa Valleys, Mt Buffalo is a must with 30km of twisties up to the summit and fantastic views in all directions.

The Hwy from Mansfield to Whitfield via the Kings Valley, magnificent Winery and countryside. Great road aswell.

Do the Yarra Valley/Dandenongs for a couple of days and see Marysville/King Lake/ Mt Dandenong lookout/ Gembrook at the start of Puffing Billy. All the roads around here intersect each other and you can get around quite easily. While out that way, get out to Warburton and then the Reefton Spur/Marysville/Black Spur loop. Awesome rainforest scenery and twisty roads to boot!

In NSW, head up from Cann River to Bombala then head down to Bega and then north to Wollongong. All beautiful coastal towns along the way through scenic dairy country. Good accomodation all along this route.

The Alpine Way from Wodonga/Corryong then to Thredbo/Jindabyne is good, cooler around October after the snow season.

Have a look at these locations and you could do some nice touring around SE Australia, arguably the best roads in Australia.

My loop would be:
From Melbourne - Yarra Valley-Mansfield-The Great Alpine Rd to Bright-Bairnsdale-Cann River-Bega-Batemans Bay-Canberra-Cooma- Thredbo-Corryong-Wodonga-Benalla-and then make your way back over to the Great Ocean Rd sidestepping Melbourne City.

You'd see some great places, meet nice people and do a fair few k's aswell.
