Another bike in the family Empty Another bike in the family

Post  kewwig Sat 08 Feb 2014, 6:24 pm

To my surprise, my wife announced the other day that she wanted to learn to ride, went out and did a basic handling course, then bought a GN125 to learn on.  She's never expressed much interest in riding before, but a couple of her mates are learning and she thought she'd join them.

She's not licensed to road ride yet, so I had to pick the GN up for her.  The bike is virtually new, with less than 2000 km on it.  I am 1.83m and 120 kg, so the ride home was hilarious.  Top speed was an indicated 100k with about a 15 minute run up, but around town it was a bucket of fun.  It felt like a bicycle and the looks when I arrived at the bike shop with full gear on were priceless (I think best described as the look you see when people see a Rottweiler humping a tennis ball). I gave it an oil and filter change and a check over and my wife's getting more lessons tomorrow.

Was a blast from the past to ride a small capacity old school single, although the power to weight ratio for some inexplicable reason has worsened over the last 33 years of riding.....

Now to buy her some tight leathers bounce

Good on her.  My wife got her learners, and after she'd done about 1,800kms we went 50kms and had a great pub lunch - but on the way home the wind got seriously bad and nearly blew her off the road - end of biking for her.  Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad

I'm lucky, I met my wife because of riding. She's been doing it longer than I have. Having said that, watching her crash in front of me was alarming to say the least. She was fine though... Bike was a bit bashed up though but it was nothing that didn't get fixed.  Very Happy

Here's hoping for safe riding.  Se's always been adventurous, even working in Antarctica for a year

Good on you, Mrs Kewwig. You go girl.
Like they say. It's not the size of your ride. It's the fun you have riding it that matters.
Keep up the good work and have lots of ride days with your friends.   Very Happy

Good on her. I'm sure you will give her plenty of encouragement.  Careful. Or else she will want to try the Bandit.   Evil or Very Mad

Congrats to Mrs Kewwig.
My hubby was about to leave to work in SA for awhile, I whined I wouldn't get a dink on the Tiger, so he taught me to ride an old Honda XL250... 3 hours of riding, got my licence the next week, bought the Honda cb250, and clocked up 5000kms in a short 5 months.
And yes, be careful, she will want a Bandit next, but I suggest she does some weight training first, they are heavy buggers for us women lol

My better half hinted at getting her licence after many years being pillion. I found a KH100 that was perfect to learn on. She was going great riding around my parents property (50+ acres), until a low side changed her mind. She wasn't injured, but decided that was it. The commitment wasn't there to feel confident and safe if she got her licence. Whenever time permits, she still loves being my pillion......if the kids surrender their ride!!
