PLEASE check your health!!!

Hi all.
 
I`d just like to say a quick word of the importance of regular check ups whether you feel ill or not.
 
Two weeks ago my 74 yr old father had pains in his stomach, and had ex-rays done followed by a CT scan. The diagnosis is...they said today he has two weeks left to live cause of the  violent nature of the cancer.

 He didn`t even know he had it!!!  He felt fine previous to the start of the pain. two weeks ago.
 
Obviously my immediately family is overwhelmed by emotions, and trying to get our head around it.  We`re not the first, and certainly wont be the last, but just a message to PLEASE have regular checks for your own well being.

That would have been very surprising to here that news. You can only hope the doctors are wrong.    (sorry it's hard to know what to say at times like this)   Stay strong John.    

Commiserations to you John.  I had a "C" scare myself within the last 12 months - operation, testes removed, chemo, now on 5 year follow-up.  But, unlike your dad, mine was diagnosed as a Stage 1 cancer so the urologist is confident that it has not spread.  Just back from the oncologist today after another routine check and blood tests.

Waiting to see my Gp for a growth under the rib cage on my right side at the back. Was previously told it was a fractured rib but it sure as hell ain't. I feel it bounce with every bump I hit. Unfortunately I can't get to see her until the end of March. Nothing else I can do but wait. Which I'm used to. Have to wait another 12 months for a hospital bed so I can have my right shoulder done.

That sucks mate , Illness unfortunately knows no boundaries ,especially cancer . Hang in there ,& think along the lines of at least it's going to be quick& he won't have to linger on too long & put up with the shit that goes along with that.

Sorry to read of your Fathers illness John. My thoughts are with you, stay strong through this difficult time mate.

We had a recent loss ourselves, my mum in law passed away a few days before Xmas

The sad fact is, it is true, and the cancer in two weeks has grown 20kg, and is consuming all his vital organs.

To Ewok, I`m sorry to hear of your scare, and do hope you will be fine and caught in time.

To Kiwi, sorry for your lose as well.

Have to agree , I have a mutated cancer gene type syndrome ( Birt Hogg Dube Syndrome  with previous cancer & a few lumpy bits now to keep an eye on ) so CT scans are a regular occurrence . Peace of mind can be a wonderful thing ....................Just goes to show , live life to the fullest , you never know what's around the corner .

All the best to you and your family John. Very sad news.  My boss, a lovely man,  is currently at his wifes bedside in hospital, waiting.  She will not be coming out. I too have a yearly check. I once asked one of the doctors how long will I have to have the checks for.  He replied. " For the rest of your life ".    OK, that's fine.
