Sex and Money

Ok so now I have your attention
A month ago I got the RACV insurance renewal notice in the mail. About the same as last year $212 full comp with 2k worth of gear and 8.5k market value. Great I say I'll add that to the reg that's due this week and pay them both when I sell a kidney for about $800 I'll be covered  

So yesterday I get the RACV insurance renewal for the FZ1. Same type of bike. Same rider. Garaged at the same address. Same km each year etc. Farrrk me they wanted $416    As close as gee your mother's hot to double the Bandit price for a 12yr old bike

So I jump online and run up a IMR quote and they deliver me just over $300 for the same cover without fudging any figures. So I trot off to the RACV this morning with the bill and quote in hand and after making small talk to a "fan" behind the counter I walk out with a new bill for a smidge over $300. Still more than the Bandit yes and still unsure of the reason for the discrepancy but to keep all my insurances together for the multi policy discount I'll pay it  

So it pays to query a bill occasionally  

FWIW: IMR wanted an insane amount to cover the B1250 last time I checked. Go figure 

I have some and house & contents insurances with Youi.  Thankfully I haven't had to test them out yet so I'm not able to comment on "are they any good?".  But, I do ring them up each year when I get a renewal notice to see if they can better the price in the notice, which is what one of their customer service reps recommended, ie don't just pay it even if it seems like a good price.  And presto, in every case, they have lowered the premium over the phone just because I rang them up.  It makes you wonder if its people or computers that are generating the annual notices.

I ring when the renewal arrives, and usually 50 bucks min is taken off the policy!
