What tyres - Again??
The time has come to purchase some new tyres...
A couple of sets ago I had the PR2's - they seemed pretty good and lasted very well (around 20k)
The ones on the bike now that need replacement are the PR3's and the front tyre is in far worse condition than the rear, they have been on for around 16k... (for those that don't know the PR3 front has a sort of feathered edge and are meant to be better in the wet).. So what to get this time.. my 'supplier' can put either on.. $380 for the PR2's or around $425 for the PR3's..

Re: What tyres - Again??
Before last year's trip to the GP I tried a set of Metzeler Roadtec Z8 interact's after reading some great reviews.
Very happy with them. Seem to be wearing well & certainly very grippy in both wet & dry.
Certainly a big improvement on the OEM bridgestones that came fitted on the GSX. Similar money to Michelins.
Cheers,

I want someone to whack on a set of the new Dunlop RoadSmart 2 that have had good reviews in UK/Europe and report back.

No complaints with the Pirelli Angels I fitted a while back. About 3000km on them now.

20000 from a road tyre is unreal. My Bridgestone 023s are toast by 6000. I might try continental road attacks next time.

I believe PR3s come in a A and B compound. One is for normal use and one is for heavy/high power bikes.

Not according to the Michelin website

I got 25k front and rear from bt023 GT's. ride was fairly harsh though, now running PR3's which are much comfortable but the front only had 4mm tread new so I can imagine they will last long!

Re: What tyres - Again??
Well I went for the PR2's again - $380 fitted so a pretty good price. The PR3's were $425 I think... I was surprised when I got home and checked the install date of the PR3's that were replaced, turns out they did nearly 22k! The rear tyre still had some tread left but the front was pretty well gone, I think riding it a bit harder during some hot summer days really killed it off!
Noticed a difference immediately with the PR2's... I guess because they were new - better and easier cornering and seemed to have a smoother ride.

Mate - new [insert anything] is going to feel good compared to 22,000km PR3's. But I do know what you mean, when I put the new PR3's on it felt as if it was on rails when I hit the roundabouts.

Re: What tyres - Again??
I've just replaced a PR2 rear after roughly 15000km. What did I replace it with? Well because money is really tight at the moment I bought a Continental ContiMotion, cost me $220 fitted. So far, after just 20km, I can report that it seems fine.

Re: What tyres - Again??
It's fairly hard for me to compare, really, only having had the Bandit a couple of weeks. I was impressed with how it hangs on and when I looked, what did I find, but a PR2 on the rear and a PR3 on the front. No signs of wear. Previous owner said the front only had 4 km on it. Anyway, so far, they seem possibly the best tyres I've experienced on a large road bike. Haven't been out in the wet yet.
Hard to imaging getting 20K out of them. That would be more than I've got out of any tyre on any bike I've owned. I'd be delighted if that were to be the case.

Re: What tyres - Again??
You can get 20k from a tyre. Impressive!
I doubt that I'll be getting much more than 6000.....
So, reviving an earlier thread, but have many people changed over from PR2s o PR3s.... and what can they say about their performance?
Where do you get PR3s fitted for $425 the pair????? In Canberra it's more like $500+ and f..k that!

Re: What tyres - Again??
By now I've had some time out getting wet. Impressive. My PR2/PR3 combination seem very good on wet roads. They feel secure enough and a little drift from time to time when rounding curves out on the road hasn't been alarming. They give good feedback related to adhesion and the occasional slight drift is not a scary sudden let go, though I did pass over a new patch one night which was like ice. Instant no feel at all ending in a little wobble at the end as grip came back. I went looking for the patch a couple of days later during the daytime, but couldn't find it for sure.
I'd run over it in teeming rain on an unfamiliar road and was unsure of the exact location (like within 10 or 15 kays - best I could do). I wanted to look at it in daylight. It might have been a bit of spilled fuel, but there was nothing else on that road which was anywhere as slick as that, and usually, if there is spilled fuel, on an open road, it's in more than one place, spread up and down the road a bit. Probably the patch, still bleeding kero in the rain.
This gets me to something I'm curious about. Others may have thoughts. With dual and triple compound tyres, it possibly would be the case that because I was travelling straight at the time, the harder centre compound would have less grip than the edges, actually making the effect of spilled fuel or a slick patch more of an issue than it would be for a straight soft compound tyre. Agree or disagree?

Reddog I have Conti road attacks on mine and Ive found them to be terrific. Would purchase them again. I can't tell you about life expectancy though as only about 4K on them.

Give these guys a ring - "Whites Racing Products" - Michael McLean on 1412627742. He's a school teacher and does the tyre thing after work on the street outside his home in Rydalmere. His partner and owner of the business is Craig White; 0413461353. He does the tyres in a factory unit at Ingleburn near Campbelltown. Cheap and good.

Re: What tyres - Again??
I came across an ad' for Pirelli Angel GT Tyres. They might be an option for the Bandit.
THE Report here is interesting because they used 6 Bandit 1250 ABS for the testing.

Are they as good as Pirelli's F1 tyres? I hear people asking.

I had the Angels ST on the CB400 (not the GT) and was not impressed at all..... Very good tyre performance, but wore out very quickly. would take a lot for me to go backRe-Cycled wrote:I came across an ad' for Pirelli Angel GT Tyres. They might be an option for the Bandit.
