First topic message reminder :

So embarrassed right now, and slightly upset. I parked in Coles, put stand down and as I got off, the damn thing flicked up, and over she went, knocking a little Bug scooter over. So basically I've laid it over but broke off mirror, scratched tiny bit of fairing and engine casing. God, wish I'd stayed home.

I think I would be parking it on the flattest part of the drive & not on a forward slope  Wink

I've done this too.  The only casualty was a broken lever.

A friend of mine with a GSX1400 had a similar experience, and some close calls, and fixed the problem by taking the tiniest amount of steel off the stop on the sidestand to give him a couple of more degrees forward, at the expense of a little bit more lean.  He proceeded with great care and caution, and started by measuring the angle to begin with and testing often, realising this was a one way street.  He's very satisfied with the result.  This would work for Bandits too.

Good habits:

Leave it in gear on the side stand. - already mentioned.

Hold the front brake when getting on.  This I always do.  My shortass frame combined with legacy inflexibility makes it almost inevitable that I will push on the bike a little bit while getting on.

Cowboy mount?  Nooo, it can end badly where there is any bit of softness about the surface the sidestand is on.
