OMG, an oil question.
Hi,
So I've got the service record for the bike and see they went to Belray semi-synth then back to a mineral. There must have been a reason for this (not cost) as he's made a special note of it. Anybody got any reasons for it? I could ring him up but knowing my luck will find out he's dead and probably died on my bike!

I tried it once in my 1200 bandit & when it was first put in it was great , but it seemed to break down after a while in the hot weather after it had been in there about 1500 km & gear changes weren't as good.Others have said they thought there was nothing wrong with it // clutch slip shouldn't happen with motorcycle specific oils like Bellray.

Re: OMG, an oil question.
The reason may be as simple as the lack of km on the bike & he went back to mineral oil to allow the mechanicals to bed in better before swapping to a synthetic base oil later on.

Curiouser and curiouser, the Bel ray was only in for 2722km. 9000 to 11722.Must be gear select problem or clutch slip, what else would you know in less than 3000k's?

It's possible that the previous owner didn't actually suffer any clutch slip but read somewhere (on a forum or in the letters to a bike magazine such as MC Trader) that semi-synthetic may cause clutch slip - so he 'panicked' and stopped using it.

Re: OMG, an oil question.
how very true.as you have service history is there evedince that clutch has been touched?as a slip and you would be inspecting plates for contamanation or warps.maybe best if you contact previous owner and ask.my own veiw is mineral but hey thats everyones choice as stated before.if it does everything expected just carry on with mineral but thats only my veiw hthEwok1958 wrote:gjn201 wrote:Curiouser and curiouser, the Bel ray was only in for 2722km. 9000 to 11722.Must be gear select problem or clutch slip, what else would you know in less than 3000k's?

Re: OMG, an oil question.
I was determined not to open this thread.
It is a different angle on a "which oil" thread though.
The answer is ring the fuggen dude if your worried and then we wont have to guess why. FFS!

FFS is appropriate when the answer can come straight from someone.
All this thread is is a guessing game otherwise.
