Hi Fellas, I'm thinking of getting the Holeshot Stage 2 Jet Kit (with K&N Oval Filters), the +5 degree Timing Advancer and Float Gauge for my '05 1200. Has anyone done this and is there any pitfalls I should be aware of? Cheers, Lucky.

As long as you have a Hi flow muffler you should have no probs. You CANNOT do that sort of upgrade with the tandard exhaust as it would cause too many back pressure issues. Best of luck.

Excellent. Will make a world of difference. Be sure to go to a shop with a Dyno. They will be able to fine tune it exact. Worth the extra few $$. Keep us informed.

I've found anything from holeshot top notch, a pain in the arse to order, but a great product.

Go for the oval filters and ditch the airbox and you won't have any problems. The kit has excellent instructions. Well worth the money.

If you have some spare coin go for a set of the stepped headers.

i`ve contemplated pods, and tried to do as much research as i can on the idea, from many different forums, and speaking personally to gooroos, and come to the conclusion,i`m not going to do it.

Reason being from the feedback of alot,CV carbs run best through an airbox,as they are vacuum carbs, and when you go to pods, can be temperamental!

not my words, but the words of many through experience

I went to a Dyno shop when I first got the bike because it had a bit of a flat spot that annoyed the shit out of me and when I got it back the flat spot was gone but now it's a bastard at first start up for a few K's, like it's too lean.

I thought they knew, but the owner told me to leave the bike for a week and then after 2 weeks and numerous calls he admitted they had been short staffed and there was a back log of work he had to get through.

He said he was having trouble getting the jetting correct on my bike (fuck off, it's a Bandit with a Yoshi pipe, no more)...I smelled a rat and gave him a deadline; I think it was a rushed job. When it's hot it goes great, but I've never owned a bike that seems so lean and hesitant to rev out before it's done a few k's!

Put it this way I'll never go back there again, even though the local MOTO dealer recommended him.

so who did you go to?

at geebung, there used to be "lae racing",who had a dyno, beside the train station, and i`m shit off that he closed. he had a good "rep"

and then at moss street springwood, there used to be startline racing, who i had my bike dynoed at,and once again, they shut down, which left me pissed again, cause they were good. i think i can try and track down the lad from lae racing, from what i understand,he is working from home, and doing a bit,but no dyno. he is a wealth of knowledge though.

apart from those two,i don`t know who to source. i will be getting an engine built by "Alan Herriman" in harvey bay, he is a bit of a god when it comes to suzi oil cooled engines, and after the build i will be using him as a referal to someone in queensland who knows their shit. after the money i will be spending on the build,i don`t want jo blow touching it,and i will travel to where i have to,to get it done properly

MTM Motorcycles, Virginia.

He seemed like a pretty good bloke, but anyone can buy a dyno and say they're a specialist!

These days it seems like we only want to go to a shop with a Dyno in it , what ever happened to going to the mechanic who you know is a whizz and him tuning it, he takes it for a blatt on the road and when you pick it up it goes like a cut snake! Shit I think I'm getting old.

It's like we only trust something we can see on a computer readout.

yeah..i`m not that kind of person..I try to research as much as possible,or through word of mouth.

i know you`ve taken the word of "moto",and to be honest,i`ve done a bit of business through the virginia branch, and i haven`t had a bad experience with them, but i guess they`er trying to help out local business.

the two forementioned businesses were from word of mouth, and it sucks they`ve shut up shop, and only both of recent times.

theres another suzi wizz at Narangba i think. his name is Joe Marshall, widely acclaimed engine builder, and it was a toss between him and Alan Herriman, who is to do my build,so you could give him ring,on a suggestion,on who to take it to,or even him, himself,as he should know exactly what settings a standard bandit with pipe should be,as he IS VERY KNOWLEGDEABLE.

If you choose to ring him on a whim, his number is 38882743

Factory jetting on Bandits is very lean and a pipe makes it worse. Ive lifted my needles to max, shortened the springs on top of the diaphragm. Next weekend I will be drilling a 2" hole in the airbox and going up to 110 mains. Ive had pods on an old bike and they just give trouble. Stock air box will flow more HP than a stock motor can make anyway.

It could be the fuel that you are using. BP98 does that to my bike and when you take out the carbs you can see a waxy residue left on the slides. After start up (sitting o/n or a few days) the bike would run like it was too lean even when the motor had warmed up. It wasn't till I gave it a good couple of revs to blow the shit out of the carbies that the bike would come good. I even tried heating up the carbies before a morning start with a heat gun, but same "lean" feel.

I only bother with unleaded now, unless I'm on a trip and know I'll use the tank that day.

I normally run it on Caltex 98, only because the missus has got us one of those Woollies credit cards and it has that Epump facillity where you swipe, fill up and go.
It's great because you don't have to take your helmet off and half your kit, then get a full cavity search before they will turn the pump on.

I was also told that standard unleaded goes off before the higher octane ULP's, but I have also heard that there isn't any real advantage power wise because late model bikes are tuned to run on our shit fuel....go figure!

I've decided I'm going to get the Holeshot kit; Dale finally got back to me with a price and the money I got for my Birthday is burning a hole in my pocket. I'll keep you updated with the progress of the upgrade.

I'd like to thank you guy's for all of your help and info, it will be helpful when I get the parts here from the states. I look forward to catching up with everyone some day on a ride and if I can help anyone with any spraypainting info send me an email....I'm a tradesman spraypainter and once had my own bike repair business. Cheers, Lucky.

mate...i`ve been trying to find someone I can trust to fix and spray my tank.

I had this dick, back into, and knock over my bike, with his ute,and left a dent in my tank. Its been like it for a while, and I don`t trust any of the businesses in gladstone to do the job.

I always go to Brisbane,so expect a PM one day from me day.
