Is it the grips or the controller that keeps failing? I know that a lot of people have complained about the new controller, seems the old one was far more reliable

Had mine on for over 2 years. Slight wear on the grip surface and still work perfectly (Oxford Sport)

Re: Oxford Heated Grips
Just finished installing the new heated grips. a very simple wiring diagram came with them but its easy to install. I mounted the controller on the old oxford bracket and fits perfect. had the bike sitting idleing and came up to temperature quickly. so far im pleased. ill take her for a ride this weekend and see how they go

They look very much like they are plug and play.

God this stuff confuses the hell out of me.
Give me a mechanical or structural problem any day and I'll whip up a solution,
this electrical stuff well.... IMFM (It Mind Fcuks Me)

Ah Pulse Width Modulator, I wondered what you were talking about in the earlier post. There doesn't appear to be a heat sink so I wonder why they didn't encapsulate it in resin. Not very good for something that is supposed to be on a bike in poor weather.
Circuit looks good it will be interesting to see how it works.

Re: Oxford Heated Grips
You might need to do a bit of fine tuning to get the heat level and duty cycle ratio right as I think the residue heat in the grips would mean a 50% duty cycle would actually run a little warmers than half hot.
Depending on your current draw a solid state flasher would be less susceptible to the arcing problems of an opening/closing contact.
But I like the relative simpicity of it, let us know how it works out.

Re: Oxford Heated Grips
Be interesting to see how it holds up. I sketched a 50/100% circuit the other day using the same basic principle of series/parallel -ing the grips.
I never like the idea of dumping the "unused voltage" into a load resistor, waste of power and on a bike you can't afford to loose too much.

Re: Oxford Heated Grips
These are the grips i recently bought on ebay. The dont get quite as hot as the oxfords did. These on full would be about oxfords 75% but still feel quite alot of warmth. so far so good

Re: Oxford Heated Grips
A big thank you to Mr Kewwig
Last night he took the time out of his evening to help the 'electrically challenged', namely me.
Last night in two hours he wired up my heated grips and installed a 12v lighter socket.
I've had dealers fit this stuff for me before and to tell you the truth their efforts were an
embarrassment compared to the quality and finish of work from Mr Kewwig.
Honestly he even cut off the red cable ties I used when fitting the grip cables and replaced them with black.
More importantly he explained what he was doing and why. Some of it got through...
I'm a wizz with mechanical and structural engineering but as said am extremely challenged with electrics...
I feel a few beers and wine for the wife (bikers widow) are are in order.
I can't thank him enough

I think another set of Oxfords are on the shopping list. Least ill get a year out of a pair of them.
The controll unit will be getting smeared with silicon this time to keep that water out

Are Oxford cheaper than the ones you bought?
