Map Your Location

First topic message reminder :

I was looking for a tool so members could map their location, if they wanted to, I thought it would be interesting to see where everyone is.

Google maps would allow it but it looks like I would have to add everyone's email address to a "collaborators" list to allow them to update their own location.

I found this free tool but I'm disappointed with the resolution: http://pub8.bravenet.com/guestmap/view.php?usernum=664013890

What do you guys think? Do you know of a better way?

Think I made that harder than it really was.

I’ve just checked the member map http://g.co/maps/vb84k and am happy to say we have a fair few pins layed out There are a few regulars who havent pinned yet so if you want to show approximately where you’re from click this link http://g.co/maps/vb84k (Google account required)

Maybe those that don't have or want a Google account could have others who are already on the map put their (general) location on for them if they want to be part of this co-op.

I already have two icons on for a current and future address, so I don't think there would be any difficulty acting as a proxy for anyone else. I'm willing to help out if anyone wants assistance, I'm sure there are others on here who would do the same.

I put in a test location pin down in Antartica to make sure multiple pins are ok:

I'm a bit concerned, it appears some members with young children are living out on the street. or worse out on the highway!

Obviously the kids were being a pain & were told to go play with the traffic

After a few false starts i finally managed to drop a pin.

I am laughing as I type this, I have dropped my location in Antartica or someplace a wee bit colder than Sunny Townsville at least, and I cannot undo it.
If admin or someone with a bit more computer sense than me cares to relocate my red pin to Townsville it would be appreciated.
I am pretty sure at the moment it is the only red pin south of Tasmania. Apologiein advance.

Hi Truck - I don't think you were in edit mode - the pin in Antartica is one I left there for testing or others to grab.

I have stuck you on top of Castle Hill lookout - you should be able to change it if you want.

When you are in Edit mode and select your Icon it should bring up another box where you write your name (Title) and comments (Description).



Your Icon (default is the blue place marker) will be in the top right, click on that and it will show you the other types. Don't forget to hit save or done when finished.

It mentions using your own other than the set provided, but I am not sure if only you will see them in this shared enviroment.

Just watch that you don't grab someone elses Icon, I don't think there is any restrictions on who you can edit.
