Let the bobbing begin...
First topic message reminder :
I have been pondering what to do to my BM. I have tried to sell it. Didn't really try hard to do this.
I have decided at having a go at semi bobbing it. This will not be a quick flash in the pan project.
This is what I have done so far today.
This is what has inspired me. Mine will be matt black. I am thinking of smaller tank for mine like this one. I know bobbers are supposed to have no front guard. Mine will have a very small one. I have my eye on a solo saddle for it already.

So do I. Just a bloody shame about the noise Nazis in this country. I would love to run straight through high level pipes on mine.

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
Started work on the seat base. Keepng with the "Industrial" look to the build. Either like it is the photos below or cut and welded to make the front more tapered. It will have a small aluminium base put onto this as well. This will have a small leather pad attached to it. I intend that you will be able to still see some of the grating when you look down at the seat pad. Grating will be either painted black or will be roughed up and allowed to rust and dull a bit then a clear coat over that to retain the forced aging looking.
Thinking a curved cross bar between the two rear down tubes and a single seat shockie mounted off this for the seat to have movement and springing.
Rear sub frame was put back on just to allow the seat base to have something to sit on.
Both of the above is how I in-vision this building heading towards.

"Dingo" from another forum I post on....]2 seperate pipe style tanks similar to this.Just bigger.
[url=http://postimage.org/]
"Cricky" again from a different forum I post on ....].
If you like the 'twin tube' thing (and I do) you could quite easily mount your headlights inside the front ends of those tubes with the speedo Frenched into a top single tube to cover the electrics...
Just a thought...
Both of the above is how I in-vision this building heading towards.

And I thought the seat on the Bandit was hard .A bit of padding wouldn't go astray!

It is going to get a nice little leather pad on that grating.

Ummmmmm, not too sure how comfy that is goin' to be Ross. Has it got any type of suspension ? Might be a bit jarring.

The bike will have its monoshock suspension still.
The seat will be mounted at a pivot at the front to the top down tube and then either have a single shockie in the middle mounted from the seat to a cross bar off the back down tubes. Or a set of scissor springs at the back mounted somehow. Either way the seat will be sprung as well.
This bike is only for cruising around on. Down to the local beach front and back type of thing.

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
Started making some footpegs today. Keeping with the "industrial" feel of the bike. Used the left over grating from the seat. Not that there was anything wrong with my original BMW pegs. Just wanted to keep it looking like a garage/garbage dump build.
Cut some notches in them. Somehow I don't think Tourtech will add these to their catalogue.

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
One foot peg is fully done now.
Bought some long high tensile bolts. Made some spacers up and got drilling and a painting.
There has been some concern expressed to me that these pegs would not be safe. They would collapse as soon as I put any weight on them. This is not so. I have mounted both pegs and stood on them. Moved up and down on them. Used the left one to stand on and swing my leg over. Neither of them have given way at all. This was even before I put the spacers in the left peg.
Just have to cut grooves in the right peg and spray it black too and they are done.

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
Only concern I would have Ross is because they are not spring hinged, they could become a lethal hazard in the event of an accident.

The original ones where not spring mounted either and had a good bit of metal through the middle too. We are talking about the 80s and 90s when foot pegs where solid mounted. Fun when you came into a corner leant right over and the peg dug in. Then the bike was thrown off line. How I remember this all too well.

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
My cow hide for the seat pad has arrived. Nice brown with a line of tan running through the fur.
Seat pad template was made this arvo. After work tomorrow I shall start cutting rubber, cow hide and sheet alloy and craft a seat.

Funny you should mention this as there will be just enough left over to do him a thong as well. It is a very small bit left................
