Let the bobbing begin...
I have been pondering what to do to my BM. I have tried to sell it. Didn't really try hard to do this.
I have decided at having a go at semi bobbing it. This will not be a quick flash in the pan project.
This is what I have done so far today.
This is what has inspired me. Mine will be matt black. I am thinking of smaller tank for mine like this one. I know bobbers are supposed to have no front guard. Mine will have a very small one. I have my eye on a solo saddle for it already.

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
If you made two small springer bars for the rear left and right of the seat and moved it back a little it would look great..

If I can get a sprung seat to fit I will.

I gave my neighbour a CB900F Bol D'Or I had laying around in the front garden and he's making a bobber out of it. The seat he made is bloody awesome so will take a picture of two of it and post tomorrow.

Gee , how much were you asking for it .I would have thought there would have been a lot of interest ,including me .To me it seems a same to
make something that will be worth bugger all instead of having a classic .If you had lived in my area i would have been at your front door in a flash .

I had a guy from WA very interested as all I wanted was $2500. But freight was going to be around $1200 to get it to him.
Sophie has lots of problems. One is it needs some new ignition parts so the engine can run again. May need new rings? She is blowing blue smoke when ridden hard. Since retiring her the front brakes have stopped working. The brake handle will go all the way to the bars and there is no brake unless I pump them lost then I get some brakes. Needs to have the left cylinder dropped off and put back on so that the base O ring seats correctly. Oil flows veru freely from there when the engine is running. At present it is all sealed up with black salastic. The list goes on... Thats why this will not be a rush build.
I want something different. I could have gone the full restore route but to me that is boring.

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
I restored a R/75-5 once the guy only wanted $250 and at that price even i hesitated ,it was a mess with a piston sized in the bore .I took it
home in pieces in a ute .Took me a year to get it back to good nick and road it for 3 years .Qld to VIC and return twice no problams .
Should have kept it but needed the money for a new bike .Personally i'd have a rethink but it your bike ,unfortuneately .

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
Popped over before I shot through for a ride today and bugger me dead he's changed the seat setup again. Its an old Allis-Chalmers tractor seat. He had it sprung but now wants a bar system for strength. Pic two shows where he is going to add another bar which he thinks will keep it ridged but still allow the seat to 'give a little.

Now that rocks. Love it. I have been sitting thinking about making my own saddle out of tread plate with leather pads.

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
Design thoughts.
Cast aluminium seat. I can rivet two small leathers pads to this. Spary this matt black too. Then with my Dremmel I can engrave a design around the edge that is still exposed and not covered by leather. Mounted with Scissor springs to give my arse that extra bounce over pumps.
Mirrors to keep with the fact the bike is German.
And I like the 'limp dick' tail light to go on the rear guard.

Re: Let the bobbing begin...
Playing around with cardboard to mock up a solo saddle. The shape is not finale. I will have a go at making my own out of tread plate and see what it looks like.

Fuel tank thoughts.
What if fuel tank was under the seat where the battery lives? Not too low that gravity still can't feed fuel to the carbs.
Then I would have all that ugly electric stuff on the frame top tube that I could shroud over with sheet alloy. Kinda like a squashed diamond shape. Or squashed stretched coffin tank shape. Very thin. Maybe have this shroud flow into the tank under the seat. Off this shroud towards the front of the bike would come the headlamp. I hope the scibble below will give you an idea of what I am proposing?
The headlamp off to one side is inspired by Shinya Kimura's 74 Ducati 'flash'
This is the fairing for his Duc ... I want that kinda look but coming from the 'dummy' tank with the headlamp to one side.
Top down on what I would like it to look like...

I have now. Cheers for that. Looks like it is running an old 80s Suzuki back wheel too.
