Learning basic maintenance Empty Learning basic maintenance

Post  RAC Sat 11 Feb 2012, 9:11 pm

Hi all,

Now I have this nice bandit, cheers (and being new to bikes) I'd like to learn how to keep it nice. Does anyone in Perth know of a course I could take?
I found ALERT in Bayswater, who do a basic maintenance day but they can't say when the next one will be running.
I'd also appreciate the names of mechanics/service centres that are good/reputable for when the next service is due.
Ta,
Ray.

Aussie street bikes run fairly regular group maintenance days in Perth. Might be worth checking when the next one is scheduled.

Workshop manuals can be found online.
I can email or post a manual for the B1250 if its any use to you.
Most maintenance items have been covered be members here so f there is anything you're wondering about just ask.
A few of the guru's here even take photos of what they are doing and at least 1 has uploaded videos of an orderly shed with a bike in a state of undress.

So ask away and we'll try to help.

Best way to start is to read your user manual front to back and then sit down with the bike in front of you and read it again. This might sound a bit corny but start touching things on your bike. Start with the simple things like adjusting the suspension, adjust the chain (make it really loose, then set it properly again). Do the simple things listed and shown in the user manual and that is a really good start on learning how to look after your bike.

You can pick up a workshop manual on the net ranging from about $5 to download from places like tradebit right down to free if you look around the place.

If you get stuck, ask on the forum and I'm sure many will answer your query. Someone with a bandit might even take a pic of what you ask to clarify sometimes.
