I had a great day today. The local Police ran a training day and we spent all day learning handling skills and I really got a lot out of it. Those boys can really ride those BMW white bathtubs. One had a ride on the Bandit, which was positively svelte in comparison to the Beemers.

We finished about 3.30 and rode home, following one of the Police bikes, came down a hill, bright and sunny day, slight right hand bend and WHAM - on the deck instantly on the right side, sliding down the road about 40 km/hr and hearing the bike behind me hit the deck and slide after me (now that's not a happy sound).

The Bandit went over a gutter and ended up in someone's drive. The GSG Moto crash peg sheared off (not good), and the right hand fairing upper and lower, Yoshi, bar end, magneto cover, indicator, lever, Givi top box and mirror are toast. The bike was rideable, (I think) but I had hurt my hand (sprain it turns out), and got carted off in an ambulance with my fellow crasher to be on the safe side. (He got some friction burns). I am glad I had all the gear on.

The road was dry, weather beautiful, but something had leaked a huge trail of either oil or diesel for several hundred metres, about half a metre wide, right smack in the lane. Almost invisible, but shit it takes you down fast.

I had just fitted a clear LED tail light and cleaned the beast too. i am gutted and hope the insurance company are prompt. Fortunately the Police officer in front saw us go down in his mirrors, and because we were riding in staggered formation, no one got run over.

What a day. So much for the GSG crash pegs.

That's a shame, my biggest fear is hitting an unseen, slick. At least you live to ride another day, bikes are replaceable. Smile

Absolute bummer kewwig - a rider's worst fear is hitting something that is totally invisable or totally unavoidable. Glad you're ok but understand you'll be pissed off and keen to get back on the horse.

Oh dear! Bummer........! Sad

You sure it wasn't too much Armor All on the tyres? Maybe the Beemer rider in front used the secret button to eliminate the threat following him? (u know-we're from hq, we're here to help!).

Time to update to a FA? Is it the train to work for a while now?

Hope you're not too sore tomorrow.

Glad you're alright kewwig - hopefully the bike will be good as new in no time. Shame they will never find the POS that dumped the slick.

Not good mate. I've hit a couple of slicks myself since I've been riding. My biggest fear is hitting one at speed and being put into a car or truck. Hope you get back on the road soon.

Sux big time. Hope your OK. As said above, bike can be fixed. I remember a long long time ago hitting some " Black Ice " on a road. Luckily only going slow at the time. I had trouble even standing up on the damn stuff. Best of luck.

Hard luck mate. A mate of mine had a big slide on his bike going up a hill on a slight left hander. Hit a line of sheep/cow excrement that obviosuly spilled out the back of a cattle truck, luckily he managed to keep it upright.

Hope the bruises aren't too bad and you aren't too stiff a couple of days after the event

Shit Ken that sucks, sorry to hear it mate but as long as the important part is OK the rest is just time and $$$. BTW I really like the Gilles Racing http://www.gillestooling.com/cms/shop/products?artid=4407&repo=120&view=info[/url] crash knobs as they have a build-in crush structure, supposed to reduce the energy transfer to the engine mounts. They stood up pretty well when I dropped mine...at a lesser speed though.

That's a shit deal mate.
Any news on the insurance yet?
I was at a wreckers last Fri and there were a few written off B1250's that looked like they had sfa damage.
Hope its a good outcome for you.
Any investigation on the slick?

Thanks all for the words of support. The bruising is coming out now and I am sore on the right side and my left hand is a swollen mess, but it's pretty minor in the scheme of things. No way to know who left the oil there.

I am awaiting the insurance assessment. The cheapest option for them would be to let me buy the gear to fix it. The quoted delayer prices for parts (a mate dropped his recently) are outrageous, and I could fix it in an afternoon.

My guess is Yoshi TRS, upper and lower fairing, indicator, bar end, Givi top box and mirror. Around $5K retail with labour included!

That's sounding like a write off mate. Sorry.

It'll be close. About 50% of current NZ retail prices and they are fixing them in that price range. Fingers crossed. If not, I will get another one.

I missed this ,,,somehow. Sorry to hear it mate. I live in an industrial town, where everything and everyone comes second to major industry. There is barely a road in the place that doesn't get a dose of transmission oil or diesel from the amount of trucks running around. It really is bad here atm. Anyway, hope you heal up quick. Smile

Although she is nuts, being a fundamentalist Christian nut job... but neways.....

I do want to do the ride of Gladstone -> Brisbane when the yacht race is on one day though....

After 2 weeks the bike shop got the quote for repairs to my insurance company. They are sending an assessor to look at it next week to see if it's all straight up. I am so pleased with Suzuki NZ prices.....NOT!!!!!!!

It has all come to...........................................

wait for it..............................................................

Nine thousand five hundred bloody dollars

It's insured for 11 and I somehow think that I may not be getting it back. It's ridiculous to think that a 40K lowside would do that much damage, but there you go.

My mate's CB1300 comes to $5900.

I suspect the next bike may be naked. Anyone ridden a GSX1400? There's a rather tasty low k limited edition one calling to me and I'd like to know how they compare
