First topic message reminder :

I picked up the B1250 this morning.
Starting like a new one but I promptly rode to the Yamaha shop and priced a FZ1s.
I used to trust Suzuki. Had many bikes with S on the tank but would be comfortable going back to Yamaha after 21 years.
Anyway change over was more than I plannef so will need to think about it.
Not riden the FZ1 does anyone here have an opinion on the newer ones?

"Clive" is legend with the FZ1OA site in the USA of which I have been a member since I bought the FZ in Feb. 2003 and a better bike I have never owned (out 0f the 64 I have owned)

2nd hand Gen 1s with low and VERY low milage are available as most were bought by older wealthy (They were $16,000 in 2001) serious bike enthusiasts who used them for long weekend rides and never for commuting and we even had a club that amused our American brothers called the "Melbourne Geriatrics Fizzy Club" and many of our rides were legend on the FZ1OA board and can still be found in the board archives.

The Gen 2 pointed itself more at the R1 wannabees and had similar discomfort and none of the punch of the R1 and none of the low down power of the Gen 1, I did my suspension at 102,000 Kms and deliberately aimed it at track style (Stiff and quick steering) and have blown many a poorly ridden GSXR 1000 and R1 into the weeds at the Island Ride days.

The Gen 1 was a class bike beautifully made (way better than the Bandit)

Memories of fun times.

Even with the flatter torque profile the power is still too high in the rev range for lazy city progress where unfortunately my poor girl spends most of her time. but if it's what u want, isn't the z1000abs a better prospect? The fz1s is no cheaper. At least you can get proper luggage for the kwaka. Tried the fz1s. Didn't like it.
A mate is trying to sterr me towards the Ninja 1000/Z1000
A few things put me off.
1. Almost 6000rpm at 100
2. Everyone says its a "buzzy" engine
3. Not half fared
4. Not pretty but not ugly (to me)

The beauty of bikes is that there is something for everyone.

Have you tried a B1250, they are a great bike and sounds like it will suit you well?

Oh, wait.....
lol! sorry mate, but chips gets 2 for that lol!

2 Dipsticks? Laughing

Hey ,, maybe you could give one of those dipsticks to Chips so he can check his oil. Smile

Too soon??
I wasn't implying anything else Wink

not too soon, but I have a point.... You are looking or a bike that doesn't exist. Instead of spending the change over money on a bike, spend it on upgrading the one you have....

I looked at the fz1 gen 1 01-05 when buying the bandit.

An 05 fz1 in same condition with same k's was $8grand
The bandit was 5g. Why would I buy the fz1?

I understand you are looking at new bikes, so I guess the yamaha will hold its value better.

I have scored a test ride of a 2010 FZ1S at 4:30 this afternoon.
I’m feeling unfaithful already.
Will report back.

Chips I had a look at a blue 05 last night that had $6500 on it but the bike hadnt weathered very well. Looked like it had never been under cover and wasnt even prepped well for sale. Not sure of the km but must have done 40,000 or more.
