Whistling sound
Hi guys,
Just come back from an early morning ride (3.9 degrees......) & each time I stopped t lights etc, I could hear a car alarm going off. after this occurred half a dozen times I realised it was my bike making the noise!!!!
I tried to check it out but after coming to a standstill the sound stops after a couple of seconds - so of course, I attempted to make it happen again but it's not consistent with any particular action, gear, speed etc.
very hard to describe a sound but it's a whistle like; weeoo, weeoo, weeoo....
Any thoughts?

Re: Whistling sound
Shit, I'm almost too embarrassed to post this:
I found the cause of the whistling. I took the bike into Peter Stevens this morning but they couldn't identify what the cause of the sound was, so they booked the bike in for Wednesday to have a poke around.
I left there with the stern warning to "take it really easy until we get to the bottom of this...."
I rode home with the whistling still happening at random times & seemingly coming from under the seat. I made a cup of tea (I'm a Yorkshireman - a good cuppa can fix anything) & had a think; maybe the weeoo, weeoo, weeoo was coming from the main electrics area - I know Suzuki don't fit an alarm as standard but maybe there is some kind of basic warning device fitted - I mean the only alarm I have is my Xena Dics Lock .....BINGO!!!!
Lifted the seat & sure enough, the lock had come out of the sock I keep it in, in the little stowage area near the tools, & for some reason was arming itself via its movement sensor!!
Took the lock out, rode down to the beach & back - problem solved. See, I told you a good cuppa can fix anything.
thanks for the comments thus far - I am steeling myself for the inevitable "dopey bastard" responses....
Cheers,
Silver

good question - kinda makes them look more like dopey bastards than me - I hope.
Anyway, chores are done, suns a-shining, clear blue sky, 15 degrees - time to gear-up & get riding.
Good weekend to you all.

Re: Whistling sound
I had the same scenario.
Kept hearing a alarm sounding every now & then.
I called into the dealer and discribed the noise to them. They were at a loss as to the cause.
As we were standing there this alarm sound suddenly appeared.
We both looked at the top box & clicked at the same time.
1 x Disc brake alarm going off in the topbox.
They still give me shit everytime I call into the shop.
You're not alone on this one

Cool man. Come to think of it i had the same problem with that as well. It was my Magnum disk lock. Drove me made until I realised that I was supposed to leave it unlocked when I put it in the Givi. Only mine kept going off on cornering.

I would of suggested the wind blowing through Saikhan ears would be an ALARMING soundSaikhan wrote:Silver wrote:OK, I'll pay that one.

Mate. at 17 I was parked in the main street on my XR250 and I tried to quickly slot in to the traffic with a disk-lock still on the lock was at the top of the disk so the wheel got a full rotation out in to the TRAFFIC ass up smashed the brake caliper, bent bars, broken levers and the lock still on I had to drag the bike back in to the parking space to take the lock off. mate I'm still embarrassed 15years onSilver wrote:Shit, I'm almost too embarrassed to post this:

Reardo a real rider on a XR would have got it all the way home without the front doing a rotation

^hahaha
I've never used a disc lock so haven't been in the unfortunate predicament of going ass up due to forgetting the disc lock. I once rode with a guy on CBR929RR. He had one caliper mssing on the front with a bolt jammed in the brake line. He said it was from a disc lock when taking off from the pub.

It could just be certain people, when the wind is at the right angle to their ears it sets up a resonance in the space between.
Oooer, I should have resisted that one.
