Micometer type .
For measuring shim thickness whats the best type of micrometer .The "g clamp " type or Vernier with digital readout ?

I would recommend a 0 to 25 mm "G" clamp type with a digital readout. If you are only going to use it on a rare occasion then they are reasonably priced at Trade Tools or Glenfords.

I use analogue vernier.....find it accurate enough ..down to .02mm (I think).......used it to measure expansion in brass cases when reloading.... works for me................................Grumpy

I use a vernier caliper and a magnifying glass to make sure I get it spot on, I measure seals and bearings day in day out working for cbc

the g clamp type ones are the most accurate ones, you just need to be careful when tightening them as they can be damaged easier than the vernier type ones. i used both for a few years when i was an apprentice toolmaker @ Royal Aerospace

That will do just fine Gus, will be more accurate than verniers measuring shims.
