04 1200 bandit coughing through carbs
Hi,
New to the 1200 bandits and having issues with it coughing through the carbs. The bike was sitting around for 5 years or so without being starting so its had the carbs cleaned and basic carb service kit installed. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking about removing the pair system to see if this helps. I can't find any vacuum leaks but I'm running out of ideas.

I'd think the tank would be pretty toxic if its been sitting for 5 years.

Yeah it was I also cleaned that out. It didn't have any rust in the tank so I was happy about that. The jets in the carby were blocked green!

I wouldn't be doing any mods before it's sorted or you could create other issues as well, find the source of this one then do your mods.ozzy wrote:Hi,

BTW, welcome to the forum, why don't you pop into the Introduce Yourself thread and tell us a bit about yourself?

I'd be checking/replacing all vacuum lines and ordering a rebuild kit for the carbs. Have you checked the valve adjustment? If they are not in spec it may cause the same issue

Welcome aboard.
I'd also chuck in new plugs and make sure the coils are good and not earthing the HT leads on the valve cover.

Id be checking valve clearances and that the cams are positioned correctly . Does it run ? Did it run ok 5 years ago before hibernation ?

Before you start striping things down. Basics first. Coughing through the carbs is lean. So either a blocked jet which it seems you have covered or Vac leak. Get it running at the best idle you can then spray water around the carbs and inlet manifold rubbers. My bet is they have gone hard and cracked.
If it stumbles or the revs rise for a second, thats where your leak is.

So? Does it run at all?
Coughing through carbs could be plug leads on the wrong plug. Wasn't that done recently by another poster?
Also if the carbs were out , and it runs, the carbs could be way out of balance.
