here's something to try for the dirtier bikes here - for washing the lower regions - engine wheels stand etc if they are oily and generally grubby use a tablespoon of kerosene in a bucket of water - or a little more if really dirty.

another good plan is not to use a sponge when washing with soap - use a brush [i have one for the top and a separate one for the bottom bits - the brush [soft] gets into all the places a sponge wont]

I use a toothbrush too but by fkuc it tastes like sh!t afterwards Twisted Evil

Washing my bike isn't something I do very often. Once a year I give it a good clean. Other than that it gets a quick wash when my work pants get dirty from just sitting on the bike.

Although, it will get washed more often from now on. Only because the new bike shop in town washes the bike for free as part of a service.
