2nd MotoGP for Australia by 2018?
South Australia's new Motorsport park at Tailem Bend on the junction of the Mallee Highway and Dukes Hwy (becomes Western Hwy on Vic side) is currently in final design stages and close to construction, they are hopeful a 2nd SA V8 Supercar event will happen in 2017 and aiming for a 2nd round of the MotoGP by as early as 2018

The Federation International de Motocyclisme’s chief safety officer, Franco Uncini, visited the site last week to perform an initial inspection.
SA Motorsport Park is aiming to achieve an A level grading with the FIM, which will allow it to host all tiers of motorcycle racing, as well as FIA Category 2 status permitting all four-wheeled motorsport outside of Formula 1.
Situated 100km south-east of Adelaide, SA Motorsport Park plans to open in 2017, with hopes of securing a major international act for the following year.
The venue’s recently appointed general manager of commercial operations, Damien White, confirmed to Speedcafe.com that Shahin has a MotoGP round in his sights.
“Sam has made no secret of the fact we have an appetite to host the highest level events, and a round of the MotoGP Championship fits the brief I’m working to,” said White.
“We were enthused, but not surprised, at Mr. Uncini’s reaction when he visited.
“It’s not until you physically see the layout that you truly understand its character. And like every great circuit, Tailem Bend has plenty of character.
“We continue to work with FIM and FIA to attain final approvals. When completed we will be licensed to conduct every category except Formula 1.”
Uncini is expected to complete a safety and design report following his visit, seeking input from MotoGP riders as part of the process.
The Italian expressed enthusiasm for the possibility of Tailem Bend one day joining Victoria’s Phillip Island venue on the MotoGP calendar.
“In general the circuit is very safe and very exciting,” Uncini told the Adelaide Advertiser during his visit.
“I have worked with (Shahin’s) Peregrine Corporation for some time and it is fantastic to be here for the first time and see this fantastic layout.
“There is no reason not to have two MotoGP events in Australia.”
Two MotoGP rounds are currently held on Italian soil, while Spain hosts four of the season’s 18 events

You steal our F1 race, you poach our footballers, the surveyors stuffed up and put the border inside SA so you got a big slice of our land and you're worried about us having a 2nd MotoGP event
You Victorians (even the adopted ones) are very precious aren't you
Seriously, I'd be nice to get a bit back, you guys stole our thunder when you when you poached the F1. The drivers, commentators, teams still reckon Adelaide was the best F1 event in the world, many say Melbourne doesn't come close.
You can keep your F1, I'd rather have the V8's on the city circuit and a 2nd MotoGP would be the icing on the cake, so long as it wasn't run consecutive with PI event

By the way we didn't poach it, you guys lost it. The same way we're going to lose it eventually.
Albert park F1 started off well but it's slowly dying. Poor attendances and massive losses are starting to kill it.
At the end of the day Ecclestone and his cronies are the one's that decide where an event will be

The crowds at Albert Park were never as good as the Adelaide Parklands street circuit.madmax wrote:

Nearly every year the Adelaide crowds created new attendance records, In 1995 Adelaide had 220000 on race day, and over 500000 for the 4 days, the best Melbourne has been able to achieve was 401000 in it's first year as Australian GP hosts. That Adelaide race day crowd was massive, more than 2 MCG's full in a city of not much more than 1/4 of Melbourne's population. Hotels were fully booked and private houses were used to billet thousands of interstate and overseas visitors.
The people that lived near on next to the Adelaide circuit were split as to whether it should be held there (as they still are with the Clipsal 500), in the main Adelaide and SA completely embraced it, for some reason, so did the rest of Australia and people from around the world, the crowds were phenomenal year after year.
The South Australian economy was struggling after the State Bank collapse, the new Liberal government wasn't as aggressive trying to retain it, the Victorian Government put in a bigger bid, the rest is history.
Unfortunately the crowds never embraced it at Albert Park like they did in Adelaide.
I still think in the long run Adelaide was the winner, dozens of new motels and other facilities were built and after a bit of a wait we got the Adelaide/Clipsal 500 which IMHO is better racing anyway
Adelaide is the only circuit in F1 history to win the Constructors award for best event 3 times the last being 1995, to Melbourne's credit they have also won the award twice, in their 1st 2 years, 1996 & 1997
Re: 2nd MotoGP for Australia by 2018?
It has often be referred to when former drivers, team officials etc visit SA, it was stated a lot during the 1st 2 or 3 Albert Park GP's, I guess that would be something the Vic media would be hesitant to broadcast but the SA media would go out of their way to broadcast.2wheelsagain wrote:Would you like to reference that mate?Chook wrote:

The fact that despite a much smaller population SA could draw much larger crowds than Melbourne would suggest the general public thought so too

What happened to the World Rally Championship?reddog wrote:Come to wa. We get some giants walking around the streets of perth, that is all. Our government doesn't want motorsport
That seemed to be going well when you had it, hardly heard of it since then, is it in NSW or QLD now?
Re: 2nd MotoGP for Australia by 2018?
WRC is in NSW, & it's doing extremely well. It normally comes to Aus every 2 years, but it will be coming back here on an annual basis, as the drivers & teams like the roads around the Coffs CoastChook wrote:What happened to the World Rally Championship?reddog wrote:Come to wa. The wrc used to be very popular. The course was very demanding as it was fun through the forest on western Australia's back bearing gravel. Or state government didn't like it because it was only in Perth for the superstate and people could watch it for free around Collie, nannup etc. Tourism wise it was awesome for all the small towns.

The circuit now has a name, "The Bend" and construction has been underway for a few weeks now, construction is about to start on pit facilities in the next few weeks.
The owners still believe they will have a (V8?) Supercars event by 2018 as well as a MotoGP the same year
January 2019 the circuit has been selected as the venue for the 25th Australian Scout Jamboree (1st time it's been held in rural SA)
The venue will have 4 different circuits racing tracks including the 2nd longest permanent circuit in the Southern Hemisphere,
Circuit Classifications:
FIA Category 2 allows all Australian and international categories except Formula 1.
FIM A/B – Allows all forms of motorcycle racing.
National Circuit
Track Length: 4.9kms
Will be used for majority of events including V8 Supercars, Superbikes and national series events, through to state racing, club racing and track hire.
GT Circuit
Track Length: 7.7kms
Will be used for endurance racing, specialist racing events, private hire and test days.
Unique being the longest and most challenging permanent circuit in Australia.
West Circuit
Track Length: 3.4kms
Will be used for the majority of short track events. Includes club racing, testing, sprint events, “cruising” events, driver/rider training.
Can be used independently from the “East Circuit”.
East Circuit
Track Length: 3.8kms
Will be used for driver/rider training, drifting, testing, club days, private days.
Can be used independently from the “West Circuit”.
The venue will also have
Group 1 standard Drag Racing strip set in amphitheatre style grand stands
60 m x 15 m burnout pad
1.5km long drift circuit
2-3km long rally circuit
60% bitumen, 4% dirt Rally Cross circuit
80ha 4x4 Adventure Park
CIK international standard Go Cart circuit
Airstrip, located on current drag strip and extended to a 2km long runway
VMax, (utilising the airstip runway) "A new concept to Australia, VMax is popular in Europe and the USA. The facility requires a long straight road allowing drivers to push their cars to the limit with regard to power and speed."
Hotel
Caravan & Camping grounds
On the corner of the Mallee and Dukes highways will be a massive "On The Run (OTR)" service station
