Re: Family and Realestate - when the penny finally drops
Mate , after my first marriage went belly up , I was told by the money lenders I no longer had an " A1 " credit rating an was deemed unstable & therefore a credit risk .The problem seems to be you need to prove yourself worthy again ....................even if it is only a credit card regular payments , or a small loan you have paid off / rent etc . etc . Sucks I know , but it does get better in time.

Mate it sucks. I need to keep on saving and saving.
The loan thing I can take as there is something I can do to change it.
The Family on the other hand, try as I might, will not change....for the better.
Apart from my beautiful partner who is the only person holding me together right now, my take on life is if you want a real friend... get a dog.

It took me 20yrs to get back into a mortgage after my first marriage went south. My second went east but that's another story!

First wife got everything, fine, doesn't make her happy.
My new wife owns the house, I pay rent, makes me happy. We like it that way.

is blood thicker than water?
I have seen first hand three times now where families will take a giant shit on each other over money.
money is evil, I dont have any so does that make me a good guy?
one day before I reach 45 I need to be in the property market as I was advised by a lender, because the closer I get to 50 the more difficult it will become for me to get credit over an extended period.
sigh.
time to ride I think. a bit of throttle therapy.

I don`t know your full story, as I didn`t read your original post, but what you`ve just said, is an all to familiar story.Ironman wrote:is blood thicker than water?

When both my grandmothers died, from both sides of the family tree, the aunties and uncles came out of know where,
and it was basically like kids pulling each others hair, demanding more than the other.
The cousins, me included, all stood back in amazement, at the behaviour of.... "GROWN UPS"
Well mate, I didn`t buy my property until I was 47. A lot my fault, moving around with work, and not knowing where I really wanted to live.
Its still not to late for you

Take a serious look at Tassie for affordable real estate.
I got an email, regarding a house I was watching on Homesales.com.au, it's just been dropped to $79K from $85k and that's with a tenant!
Sit on it for ten years and the tenant will pay it off for you.
Ridiculous prices elsewhere in Aus are just too stupid to even consider.
I can't imagine looking down the barrel of a half million mortgage.

If you don't particularly want to go "overseas" I reckon there is oodles of real estate in the smaller towns in Qld.
I know Watson's Bay and Vaucluse are a little expensive but there is a 2000m2 block for sale in Aldershot (go on, you know you want to look it up ) for $32,000. There are an abundance of dongas coming from the coal mines very cheap. Some are purpose built laundry/bathroom, others are multiple bedroom/ensuite, others just empty rooms. Put 2-3 together with a single roof span and you could have a very large house for $20K to $30K
