Consumption
Guys. I have a 2008 Bandit 1250S. According to literature I read I should have a 17 litre fuel tank. Is that correct as I only seem to get about 190 kilometres and the thing is almost empty. I am almost 60 years old so no I don't flog it just let it do its thing. Are the 1250's heavy on fuel?. Or is the fuel gauge grossly inaccurate?. Any info would be appreciated. And I run the bike on 98 Octane.

Re: Consumption
I fill up soon after the last bar starts flashing, usually 200-215 around town, around 300 on country trips, the tank hold 19 litres, usually at those distances I've still got 3-4 litres leftimp067 wrote:Guys. I'm pretty sure there is a whole thread dedicated to fuel capacity etc
FWIW, I get no difference between using 95 or 98
Re: Consumption
Thanks Chook. I thought it was 17 litres. I may just have to run it to around the 300 on a trip and see how it goes.

Re: Consumption
Howdy. The fuel gauge isn't all that accurate and the light starts the annoying flashing with 5.5 litres left in the tank. Here's what I'd suggest:
Fill her to the brim and go for a ride until you feel it's getting low - probably about 200kms from what you've said.
Fill her up again to where you did the first time. Note the number of kms done from fill up to fill up (call this A). Note the litres you put in (call this B).
Divide the kms done by the fuel figure, ie A divided by B. Call this result C, which is telling you how many kms per litre you are getting.
Multiply C by 19. Call this D - it's the number of kms you'll do before you run right out of fuel and have to push her home. Report back on your results please.
PS: the fuel bowser symbol and the last bar on the fuel gauge starts to flash with only 1.5 litres left in the tank - at this point (C x 17.5) you probably don't want to be more than about 20kms from a servo.
Cheers

I agree with Ewok but suggest you refill at 100km to make counting on your fingers and toes easier. 200km is fine for retired engineers
Now to complicate things "a little" its actually a 20lt tank but you lose 1lt with the fuel pump and associated plumbing.
Our very own Gus did an economy run back in the early days and surprised us all with over 400km out of his stock (except can) 07 1250.

So that would give it a 19lt capacity, yes, you are complicating things
Re: Consumption
Thanks for all the hints and tips fella's. Will do the up to 100 km thing, fill it and work what kpl I am getting. That should sort it once and for all. Either that or this old fart is going to be doing some pushing!

The problem is that you're riding a metric bike and you're an imperial vintage rider.
You need to be doing mpg calculations and you'll get your economy back.

I think that it must be some sort of delirium brought on by my first week back on the ladders.
I still reckon mpg was better.

Here's a table that might save you some time and effort
Also, if you read the owners manual it recommends 91RON petrol. I used it in both my 06 and 09 Bandit as well as my Honda CBR650 and now my DL650 V-Strom will no ill effects.
Economy litres/100Kms
litres 5.2 5.4 5.6 5.8
19 365 352 339 328
18 346 333 321 310
17 327 315 304 293
16 308 296 286 276
15 288 278 268 259
