wanted Ventura rack
Hi I'm looking for a second hand Ventura rack for a 1250s bandit.

The racks are universal, so if you can't find one off a Bandit, you can buy any used one and then just source new mounting adapters for your Bandit.

You might get lucky here, how about telling us a bit about yourself on the introduction threadSap82 wrote:Hi I'm looking for a second hand Ventura rack for a 1250s bandit.

Correction. The racks are NOT universal. There are several different sizes. The width does vary and so you will have to research which one you need.
ps. Speaking from experience. I have a rack for a Bandit and one for a Blackbird. They are different in width size.

Re: wanted Ventura rack
I know they are dearer , but if it is your daily ride have you considered a top box. They are lockable , weather proof , removable ,& bloody handy . Just don't call it a Givi in front of Gus , he has an allergic reaction ( just type in Givi into the search box LOL )

Re: wanted Ventura rack
Whilst you'll find the racks for the 1250 fits about 195 of the 1135 other bike manufacturers and models according to Ventura fitting list, the mounting kit is only shared with the later Bandits, i.e. the half-breed K6 (sorry Steve), the 1250's, and the baby 650.
This site has some prices of kits as well as part numbers.

Re: wanted Ventura rack
My apologies for the misinformation. I'm so old I remember when I was buying those there was only one universal rack.Hammy wrote:SVDon wrote:The racks are universal, so if you can't find one off a Bandit, you can buy any used one and then just source new mounting adapters for your Bandit.

I'm with Paul though. Get a topbox and don't look back. Or alternatively, get a regular flat luggage rack and bungee a dry bag onto it for traveling if you don't like or don't want to spring for a topbox. I got a topbox as part of the purchase of my current FA. Had I not inherited one, I'd still be using the method I used on the VSTrom. The BYDB (Ortlieb big yellow dry bag) I've been using for about 15 years and it's a bit dirtier, but still performs like brand new through many moto and non-moto trips. Or, if you don't want a luggage rack, just bungee it on to the back seat.
During my several years using the Ventura packs on my ST1100's I found them to be less than desirable pack systems, and the racks are ugly when the bag is not present (IMO).
Not that I care about ugly, as you can see by this pic of my old bike ready to go. (Yes, those side bags are huge) Current setup shown in my avatar pic.

Re: wanted Ventura rack
I still have one for the VTR but get around with the grab rail fitted instead mostly. They're a bloody handy bit of gear and look far better than huge panniers that unless designed with the bike always look tacked on afterthoughts. That's my 2 worth

So I take it you don't like the 45 liter Givi topboxes used as sidecases on my VSTrom, eh?
At rallies, the most common comment heard about it was "Wow, is that f**ker fat!"
Followed by "Hey, do you have room for some of my stuff?"

Re: wanted Ventura rack
My 39L Givi looks much sexier than the 45L version Chris
Honestly, it depends on what you want it for and what you can afford.
After over 20 years of Gearsack luggage I was looking for something lockable, waterproof and easy to pack and use, the GIVI meat all of that criteria, the topbox rack is no uglier than Ventura or Gearsack when the box is off but I hardly ever have it off as I use it as my everyday glovebox
The 39L box is asthetically better than the larger ones but you can lock 2 helmets in the 45, I can only lock 1 up
I went the larger panniers (which aren't as pretty as the smaller ones) but that combination with the topbox gave me more storage for less $$ and the 39L is plenty for everyday use.

Re: wanted Ventura rack
Well I'm happy with my Ventura Rack and pack, BUT the zip went bust early - had it replaced locally. It was a second hand purchase. The replacement zip is much meatier. It will clearly see out the bag.
