Bling 2 the bike
Hi friends
Instead of a pm I thought to open this up with wheel painting
Looked at Ewoks rims and me like.
Is the new Kwacka gold is sold in a rattle etc
Also was stripping of the old paint was needed, Or just put the colour on with no primer then followed by clear.
How have you guys painted rims in the past. ?
Have a nice day

Hi Matty. A bit of info here on my approach: https://nswbandits.forumotion.net/t2862p45-gold-and-black-bandit?highlight=gold+rims
The gold colour is given in the thread - I tried some others (on some some scrap metal) but I wasn't happy with the way it came out.
I just used paint stripper from Mitre10 to get ride of the original paint - two coats and there was no black paint left. Then I cleaned them with 3M solvent and then applied etch primer. Then the VHT gold paint (three coats), then the decals, then used a wheel specific clear top coat (multiple coats). All of these were bought from the local autostores.
Powdercoating or anodizing might be more durable and faster but I'm happy with how they came out. A chat with a paint specialist would be useful if you wanted to powdercoat or anodize. AS I mentioned in the thread, the rattle can approach was extremely slow due to the number of coats and drying between them.

Ewoks approach to painted surfaces is once clean, never wash it again. :llol:

When I worked in the radiator game, I had access to a wet bead blaster and a spray booth.
I stripped my Rgv wheels back to bare and painted with 2 pac.
Very shiny and durable result.
The paint on the Rgv wheels was a bitch to get off. I think that it must have been powder coat, whereas the paint on the Bandit wheels will come off very easily. As for your TL, who knows what quality Suzuki had the day they built her.
A good result can be had if you take your time.

I primed over the original paint (scotch brite first), then applied the Gold paint. Looked good for a while. There are patches of paint that have peeled off, so at my next set of tyres I'll probably touch the wheels up with the rattle can.
