Streaky Bay, SA
I'm away for work this week, this morning I went for a walk in Streaky Bay and was coming back past the jetty as the sun was coming up
The quality isn't great, they were taken with my bottom of the range Samsung phone

The sun's not up until 7 this far West during daylight savings and it's just going down at 9:00pm.paul wrote:Nice pictures ( never been there myself ), pity you then had to go off to work ...........What were you doing up walking around before sunrise , did you wet the bed ?
Today it was announced our Premier wants to change our time zone to either the same as the Eastern states (that would make it dark until 7:30 here and still light at 9:30pm) or go closer to WA time, imagine that, the sun would be up in Adelaide at 4:30am during daylight savings, earlier before and after that
Re: Streaky Bay, SA
Yep .they keep dragging that one out don't they ! That would then mean at the start and end of daylight saving time change, for a few weeks, school kids would be going to school when it is still dark.( catching buses, walking to school etc ) & our time zone would be even further away from W.A. (who we also deal with as well as the eastern states ) than it is already ,or just as stupidly farther away from eastern standard time. I'm sure if the business community can work globally with different time zones in different countries , Australia's 3 time zones would be a doddle to work around . Haven't we already had referendums on this in the past ?Chook wrote:The sun's not up until 7 this far West during daylight savings and it's just going down at 9:00pm.paul wrote:Nice pictures ( never been there myself ), pity you then had to go off to work ...........What were you doing up walking around before sunrise , did you wet the bed ?

There's not much in the way of exciting roads out that way but the coastline is awesome, Quorn in the Flinders Ranges however,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I think the next "Meet" will have to be in Pauls STREET ! It will be the only way that we get to meet the bugger.

I was going to suggest Macleay Island for 2016 but I heard they banned the last Bandit that used to reside there, something about the Suzuki being too awesome it was shaming all the others

1700km one way (most direct) for me. I'd need 3 weeks as a on route tour.

Re: Streaky Bay, SA
So you're saying now you haven't got a Bandit it'll take 3 weeks to do 3400km? Maybe the Honda's not that good after all, 3 years ago Kaylah and I did 6500km 2up in 16 days and we only rode for 10 of them, maybe it's time to come back to the dark side2wheelsagain wrote:1700km one way (most direct) for me. Seriously though, if we did do SA for a meet, the Flinders Ranges would be a better option, if reddog or anyone else from WA did the trip I'd be happy to do the run to the WA border (2 days) and ride back with him from there, that would make it a 2500 trip to get to Quorn (which is only 300 km from home)

Re: Streaky Bay, SA
That depends on what you want, nice area but if you're after some good riding as well the Flinders Ranges or Adelaide Hills would be better, except the Adelaide Hills are way over policed as well so that rules them out.Ewok1958 wrote:Mt Gambier?
If no one from the West wanted to cross the Nullarbor we'd be better off going to the Grampians than Mt Gambier and it's still only 150-200 km further than the Flinders Ranges for anyone from Adelaide.
If we can convince anyone from Perth or even Darwin to come, they have nearly 2500km to get to the Flinders Ranges (from Darwin it's nearly 2800km)
Brisbane is still less than 2000km via Broken Hill and 2200km via the Hay Plains
Hervey Bay is 2150/2400
Bega Valley 1650/1500
Sale is under 1300 either through Melbourne and Adelaide or Mildura

Soft! only 1663km according to Google maps
...and you have so many interesting options.
Under 2000km for me I'd make it a 3 day trip, bugger going across the desert though.

I'm certainly agreeable to an SA forum or somewhere close. Sorry Hammy, striking whist the iron is hot!
PS: when mentioning Mt Gambier I was thinking that a bunch of us would get the GOR in while we were at it! Not to worry - it'll be there for another one.

Re: Streaky Bay, SA
I've done the GOR in the car a couple of times, every time I've planned to do it on a bike the weather has turned nasty and I've had to cut across inland.Ewok1958 wrote:I'm certainly agreeable to an SA forum or somewhere close. Sorry Hammy, striking whist the iron is hot!

The only reason I'm suggesting the Flinders Ranges is there is plenty of great riding and it's reachable from WA in 3 days (or a easy 4)
Maybe one year we could base ourselves somewhere to do the Grampians and GOR

I want to ride over to WA one year but the boring bit in the middle is the biggest turn off.
At least when you get there, there are so many great roads in the SW WA
