R&G tail tidy 1250s bandit
I picked up my new tail tidy from my local suzuki lads today, got it for a good price, and upon opening the box you can see where the money goes, even at full retail the quality of the product is fantastic, and the attention to detail is fantastic. Glad I got it over the other ones going around.

Looks good. Is there a question of legality? I seem to remember some discussion and figures on this topic, probably in another thread. I'm going to be embarrassed if it's above because I didn't check!

Yea I'm pretty sure they arnt as they don't come out past the rear wheel and on the 45 degree bizo, I've seen heaps of bikes around town running tail tidies, have kept my original one just incase.

Re: R&G tail tidy 1250s bandit
Correct, the mudgaurd has to extend down to a imaginary line no higher than 45 degrees from the rear axle. It doesn't have to be big and bulky though, it only has to cover the centre of the tyreGhostbandit wrote:Ewok1958 wrote: Looks good. Is there a question of legality? Sorry, 5 minutes in photoshop doesn't always give perfect engineering results
Here's a better view:
Re: R&G tail tidy 1250s bandit
Just got off the RMS website in the Vehicle Standards Information section (No. 28): Guidelines for Modifications to Motorcycles!
Section 4: Mudguards states that - A rearwheel or side car wheel mudguard must extend at least from a point vertically above the front of the tyre to a point vertically above the rear of the tyre. It must be mounted as close as practicable to the tyre. (The diagram shows a bikes rear wheel and swingarm with MINIMUM COVERAGE indicated by lines drawn vertically from the front of the tyre and from the back of the tyre, basically this distance would be the diameter of the tyre.)
One could argue that the rear brake light sits out behind the vertical line from the rear of the tyre, therefore your tail tidy would comply!!!
No need for the Ducati style add on shown in the pic above???
I have a Hot Bodies under seat unit incorporating 2 individual red rear lights with the number plate screwed into this. No hugger either.
The rear point of the bike sticks out further than the vertical line from the tyre, therefore I feel as if I comply with this guideline!!!
Bikes like modified Streetfighters or the Cafe Racers that Hipsters ride may come into a bit of trouble as they often are a single seat with no guard at all over the rear portion of the rear tyre.
Keep your rear tail tidy I say and show off that nice fat 180 rear tyre.

I was never a big fan of this on the back if the diavel, I think it makes the back side look more cluttered and hides that sexy rear tyre, just my 2cbarry_mcki wrote:madmax wrote: Is that attached to the rear disc Barry?

I think you'll find the size of that shovel is just for us.
US model is just a plate holder
My guess is the designers would have preferred it not to be there at all

Re: R&G tail tidy 1250s bandit
What are the requirements in Europe? Back in the 70s we followed the US for design rules, now we are usually a few years behind Europe
Re: R&G tail tidy 1250s bandit
Keep your Tail tidy.
The requirements (for rear guard extension) of ADR42 are to be be repealed to align with the UNECE regs.
Media release from the Feds today.
http://www.minister.infrastructure.gov.au/jb/releases/2014/September/jb096_2014.aspx
What this means is that given that a vehicle can comply with a later applicable ADR (but not an earlier one) it therefore would apply to an in-service (already registered) vehicle.
While it might take some time for Police etc to catch on, you'd be on pretty safe ground to challenge any action against a tail tidy given this repeal.

Tail tidy looks great. Just throw a carbon or equivalent hugger on there. They look cool ( imho ) and will stop your new tail tidy and everything near it getting covered in shit.

Hey jimmy, been eyeing them off, can't decide which I would like to go for, not to sure if the carbon look ones will look cheap against the proper carbon fibre can and tank protector

Fitted one to mine last night. Pretty simple job. Now I need some flash little LED blinkers.
Re: R&G tail tidy 1250s bandit
Get decent LEDs to start with such as Rizoma or you will be wasting your money.
