Glympse Locator
Do you have family and friends who worry where you are while riding?
Are you txting where you are every time you stop?
Do you get the rounds of the kitchen if you forget to txt?
If you are/do, have a look at Glympse. Its available for both types of phones (Android and the wrong one)
Its free. You fire up Glympse when you're stopped and send a location point on a google map to whoever you like.
You can also set a destination pont and have your route displayed.
You can set the time limit the link is displayed for.
It looks good and works well. I'm using both versions. The iPhone version for work and the Android one for pleasure.
Have a look at Glympse

Does anyone down under use the SPOT trackers? On the insistance of my missus, I've been using one on every trip and even long solo day rides. She likes to make sure I haven't fallen off a cliff or something.
The bonus is she usually can see when I'm getting close to home and opens the garage door for me as I'm rolling up.
Here's the record of my trip over to Red Bluff to get my seat customized. It should show up there for a few days.

Re: Glympse Locator
I think my missus is glad to see the back of me ............doubt she would bother to look after the first novelty try out . Might be handy in some remote locations on a long trip though , but I prefer to ring her to annoy her & convince her she misses me

I don't think my Mrs gives a shit what happens to me, she only shows any concerns when our daughter is with me, might have to look into it for the Parkes trip
Re: Glympse Locator
MM should get so we don't worry where he is!
Seriously though, could be useful on a trip if a Glympse group for the group was created, so that the question of "Where's Wally" could be instantly answered.

Re: Glympse Locator
I can see how Glympse could be useful in that situation. You'd see we'd stopped back down the road and then, while you're having a shandy, you'd watch to see if we moved and which way we went. Once we continued, you'd order your second shandy and greet us with "What took you so long?". We'd see you went on up the road. Win - win.

Re: Glympse Locator
I played with this a bit more today and I reckon it has a real use with group riding. Whether people use it for "domestic" purposes is entirely up to them. I like the fact that the person initiating it can distribute it to as many or as few people as he/she wishes. The initiator can also limit what information is conveyed - you don't need to transmit your speed to all and sundry if you don't want to! But from a group perspective, it is a good thing to be able to determine if a group member that has gone missing is moving or stationary and where they are currently located, especially where there is no phone coverage (even with phone coverage the missing member might be riding, or lying injured and not able to answer so a ringing phone is useless to the group in terms of providing useful information).
I like it - well done 2WA.
PS: Further battery drain on these smart phones might be an issue - my Galaxy Ace lost about 20% of battery power running Glympse continuously for an hour.

Re: Glympse Locator
How does it link to the others in the group? by phone number? or do you have to setup an account?

Re: Glympse Locator
You can link to anyone that has a mobile phone in your listings. The recipient gets more info though if they also have Glympse, ie they can actually watch you tracking your way along a map, whereas a non-Glympse recipient will just get an SMS (point in time).

Re: Glympse Locator
Ewok tracked my trip to work this morning and was quick to pounce when I topped 104km/h Clearly in the car today
My battery drain shows no increase over and above normal GPS usage when running Google MyTracks or Map My Walk. When recording with these apps my screen is off. Monitoring would be different. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
Overall I agree it has great group potential bettered only by some sort of spot tracker in my opinion.

Mate, I was still in a nice warm bed as I watched you creep along that map on your way to work! Thought of you though (minus 2.1c here this morning).

I'd take the Bandit - it meets all utilitarian transport requirements.
