Scraping centre stand
Does anyone have an easy fix, besides taking off the centre stand, to stop it scraping going around left hand corners 2 up?
I have adjusted the shock pre-load and damper settings to their hardest but it is still scraping.
My daughter and I weigh around 170kg combined weight.
Would there be anything else scraping under the bike? I can't see anything obvious.
Please help as it's very distracting
Cheers
Marcus

Re: Scraping centre stand
You could go with a gsxr shock or similar, looking for something 10-15mm longer.
This will raise your ride height. It will also change your steering angle, making it turn in a bit quicker.
Plenty of choice on ebay.

This may be your problem. If its the standard shock the damping screw adjusts rebound damping only. The compression damping is not adjustable.
If you have set your rebound to its maximum this means that when you hit a bump your shock compresses (and you lose ground clearance) but it returns to its normal height too slowly. So over a series of bumps your shock progressively packs down lower and lower.
I'd suggest finding someone who knows how to set your sags (preload) correctly (and hopefully they can give you pointers on correct rebound setting) . Better still go to a suspension technician (I use ASR Suspension in Dromana because he has owned a Bandit and knows them well) but there are plenty in Melbourne, with your daughter and he will set it correctly for you and run you through the process and explain changes needed for oneup/twoup/luggage. They normally charge $50 to $100 depending on how thorough they are and you can learn a lot from it.
As an aside, I'm not too well versed on the 1200 chassis but I would imagine they are not too different to the 1250 on which your pegs will ground before the centrestand. Have you checked to see if the centrestand is clean and lubed so its returning to it's fully up position?

Is it possible that someone changed the "dog bones" to lower the bike.
I recall Gus changed his to raise the bike so the dimensions have been posted on the forum already.

Re: Scraping centre stand
If your not sure if its the centre stand that's scraping, take it off just for a test ride and see if you still have the problem.

Easier just to get on your back and have a look.

If I get down that low I might not get back up

Re: Scraping centre stand
On a tour my B1250 regularly carried over 170kg over the GAR and my center stand never touched down.
Boots did
I'd be checking the ride height unloaded as I suspect the bike has been lowered at some point.

Re: Scraping centre stand
It might just be that the spring on the stand has lost tension and occasionally drops down and scrapes. Just a thought

Re: Scraping centre stand
Sounds like a rear spring upgrade is required. Also hanging off the bike means the bike stays more upright. I've scraped the centre stand before, but it was on a rough road which dropped away halfway through the turn. Anyone that's ridden Balingup to Nannup will understand.

Re: Scraping centre stand
He said he'd set his preload to maximum as well so if he's still below correct sag with that then yep, he better get his wallet out.
