Cherry Picking :-p
So I have joined the pink riders. I've always wanted to be like Gus when I grow up.
No dress's for me though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So this how it happened.
A year or two ago, my nephew rang me for some bike advice on a Bandit not running right.
The bike belonging to his girlfriends cousin.
So my Diagnosis, off the top of my head was blocked fuel pump. (Knowledge gained from Bandit Forum)
So I told them to go to the "Fuel Pump Fix" on here.
After a couple of weeks, I ran in to my nephew and asked how he went with it. All I can remember him saying is that he pull in the shed, Still not running right and got a new bike. (I do that every oil change! lol Not)
I hear you, But don't say it. He was a nice bloke.
So, over a year later, I get a call again.
Nephew: How hard will it be to fix?
Me: Not hard, IF it is what I think it is, BUT, It could be a can of Worms! Why?
Nephew: He is selling it cheap $####
Me: I'm interested!!!
So making a short story shorter.
Today I picked it up (trailer and ramp for the smart arse's)
Dropped in to the car wash on the way home.
Got home & drop in my battery and a quick ride.
First thing I have to said is,
*Non-ABS brakes feel shit loads better then ABS!
*Riding a naked feels like something is missing! lol
*I can't get over 80Kph or use any more then 1/4 throttle.
10 minutes later it was as quick as any standard pink bandit.
How? easy, I put a Silver Bandit tank on it!
He told me that he had drop it and had the tank professionally fixed. Do so called professionals always paint the inside of the tank?

Good score Reardo. Now you can run NAKED, or just partly clothed. You should get one of those fuel pumps that Ewok got from the states. Cheap.

It's funny how 2 bike that are the same with they clothing remove, Can feel so different from each other! Seriously.Hammy wrote:Good score Reardo. Now you can run NAKED, or just partly clothed. You should get one of those fuel pumps that Ewok got from the states. Cheap.
It will be getting a new filter and the "Fuel Pump Fix" as the pump still works, So no point replacing it.
The filter will be blocked for sure! As you can see in the bucket. The fuel is deep purple, Almost black from the paint.
It would be dumb not to do the Regulater mesh screen, As it has 35000km on. Even if it didn't have the paint in the tank.
If that reads a bit blunt mate, It's unintended. No sleep

Re: Cherry Picking :-p
Wtf did they paint it? I'd be popping some paint stripper in the tank and get rid of it. Obviously be careful of the paint on the outside. Good score though. Glad you have a spare in case I am in your neck of the woods mate

There is a little bit of work to do before it go's up for sale.
The tank is the bass most the work, In side and out. He used a magnetic tank bag a lot, With bad results!

Re: Cherry Picking :-p
In that case you don't have to be so careful with the paint stripper. Magnetic tank bags are a bad idea especially on the bandit as it has a sloped tank. All it takes is one piece of blue metal and it scratches the tank bad enough to require a respray.

Re: Cherry Picking :-p
So I've spent a few hours working on the bike. It took me a couple of hours just to
get the years of caked on chain lube off of the rear wheel & chain.
Paint stripped the inside of the tank & rinsed it out.
Pulled the pump down, Cleaned & new filter.
Still to do's:
Get the tank buffed. Hopefully to get some of the scratches out of it.
New battery.
New oil & filter.
TPS & TB sync.
Maybe a new replacement Radiator. Anyone tried one of these?
The two stable mate
Copied from my thread: F%$# it, Stripped sump tread. :-(
Ok, The Heli coil is in and the old silicone gasket removed.
New thread
I rinsed out the pick up with fuel
and ended up with a rock and silicone gasket form it
Bits of silicone gasket that Suzuki use on the sump that I wash out of the oil pick up.
The clean up job was easy.
Nowwwwwwwwwwwwww, time to start putting it back together.

Re: Cherry Picking :-p
Just do your homework with Chinese radiators. A few users on another hotrod related site have had bad experiences with Chinese supplied aluminium radiators, from not fitting to failures.
You might be better off getting yours repaired, or a replacement from the wreckers.

Yeah, I'm thinking about taking the gamble. As the rad on it is bent, But still works fine.
Just looks shit and will lower the selling price.

Re: Cherry Picking :-p
So, I had bit of extra work to do as I posted in the Thread F%$# it, Stripped sump tread. :-(.
So I ripped off the header to get to the sump and thought I'd give the headers a birthday why I had them off.
I usually use the good old Autosol.
But, As the headers were caked in 6 years and 35000km of shit. I wanted something to take some of the crap off first.
This what I ended up with, Aluminum Deoxidizer. Works on Stainless too.
You just lightly rub it on and the stuff comes off so easy, Until I got to a lot of tar, some rust and the Cat stain.
The Tar and rust come off easy enough with a kitchen sponge/scourer and deoxidizer.
The drill with wire brush on it made quick work of the Cat stain
The polishing bit was the quickest part of the job. With Purple Metal Polish.
Youtube clip of how it's works.

Re: Cherry Picking :-p
It's looking good Reardo.
Best thing I've found to get rid of Tar is Kero, just dissolves it and doesn't hurt anything else.
If my pipes are starting to look a bit ratty I always wipe them over with kero first, leave it wet for at least 20 minutes and then just wash with the same detergent I'm using ob the rest of the bike. A little bit of metal polish after it's dry and I end up with a mirror shine.

Re: Cherry Picking :-p
You can also use WD40 on tar

Nice job on the headers Reardo. I reckon if mine come off again some Delkavics will be going on in their place
+1 on Kero for tar and road grime.

So I've been playing with the headers on this bike.
Tho I'm not keeping it, I have a need to make things better.
The restrictive weld
Partly filed out.
The outer pipe is about 36mm and so is the exhaust port on the motor.
The inner pipe is about 30mm
The restrictive weld is about 26mm
