I could live with a 130kmph limit but it would be great knowing that if you wanted a short blat up to 200 or so that you weren't chucking your license away.

I think the majority of people would ride in their comfort zone ( maybe plus a bit ) , but I also think the accident rate won't change either ..................funny thing is , I have sped  Wink  , & didn't drop dead from the experience ...................there is nothing worse than sitting on 100 kph when conditions would easily allow me to safely ride faster ( I think it's more dangerous)

However, from that time until 2012, more people died on Northern Territory roads than in the six years before the change.

Hmmn, me thinks all this shit about speed being the biggest killer on our roads has now been proven false

I agree, but you know one of the biggest problems on the open highway is the multiple speeds the traffic does. Old granny doing 90, the do-gooder travelling at 95, the grey nomad and his caravan doing anything from 60-90, the learner and the P plater doing 80 as that's all they are allowed in some states. Then we have the others doing 105 because they know they wont get caught just the little bit over. The hero doing 120, and the odd dickhead doing 160+.

Give me a realistic speed zone and have everyone doing it +/- 5k and I'll be happy

I find it ridiculous that a road deemed safe to travel @ say 100 kph has now suddenly become safe at only 80 kph  , despite modern vehicles being immeasurably more safe  to drive than ever before .
The person who coined the term speed kills , left out one important word ..........inappropriate ...............like it is inappropriate to do 130 kph past a metropolitan school with kids about , but not on some boring straight stretch of road in the middle of no-where .........................as far as I know , speed itself has never killed say like a fighter pilot , or anyone else whom travels at speed regularly , but get him to do those speeds in traffic during peak hour in his car ( if it could ) , & it may be a different story .

The death rate on NT Roads by any measure is off the wall
