GoPro mount on GSX1250 Empty GoPro mount on GSX1250

Post  madmax Fri 10 Jan 2014, 3:46 pm

Time to get my Christmas present into use

As I don't like suction cups I was looking for something neat and strong.
So I bought these off Ebay. As I already had a unused RAM mount

Without the GoPro. Just needed to buy a slightly longer bolt for the mirror

With the GoPro Attached. And of course easily removed

Hey, really neat job that MM. Minimal visual impact to the bike when the camera isn't  mounted.

Can you let us know how the image is re shakes.

There is some vibration but not much, less than a helmet mount and no more than any other type of rigid bike mount I've seen

When I can work out how to reduce the video file size I'll post up a sample.

What software are you editing with mate?
If its a standard package have a look at YouTube.
Jimcoleman is the guru on Apple stuff. I've done a bit too. If you can output as MP4 or MOV at a bit rate around 5000k you'll be right.

Not using anything at the moment, haven't really tried.
I do have a program that will convert just about any video to any other video and can be used to shrink it down for mobile phones etc but the quality is horrendous

GO-Pro settings

if you have a Black Edition the best setting i found especially where you are mounting it is  720P 100FPS wide
if you have a Silver edition 720p 50 FPS Wide

Will keep all your vision nice and sharp and good for slow motion if you want

Its a Black+
I did 2 test rides on the way to work this week, first one @ 720p 50 FPS Wide. Quality not bad but a little jerky at times.
Second one @ 720P 100 FPS wide quality excellent except every few seconds the video would skip. Like recording couldn't keep up with camera

I have inside a Sandisk 64gb extreme plus microSD in there, supposedly good for 80MB/s read and 50MB/s write So I wouldn't have thought that would be the issue.

Hopefully the firmware update is the fix

Are you trying to play back on on your PC ?

Do you have pro tune mode on ?

i am going to get all techy here. If you have pro tune mode on turn it off you do not need to record at 30mbits a second 15 is fine, when you plug it into your PC via the USB cable it pops up as a portable drive, then you open the drive select the video file and it plays all choppy, is this correct

Ok if this is correct the the problem is data rate from the card via USB. USB is not much good for playing high data rate video, hence this why you get a skipping, Copy the file off the camera and play from the computer not the camera, if its still choppy then run it through the GoPro Software this will make it play or Re render to a lower data rate

that should fix the choppy or skipping of the video

yep that's what happens

I just copied the files to my desktop, which is an SSD. The problem must be in the recording as its still there. Its more like a flicker every 5 or so seconds.
Tell me more about this pro tune mode

My recently replaced (upgraded) Dell work laptop wouldn't play the raw mov file recorded on my Drift. It didn't have the video capacity even though the hard drive was fast enough. It dropped frames. Re-rended video was fine. You might be stuck with the hardware Brian.
It takes a serious computer win/mac to edit hd video.

that looks good but I have a heated grips switch mounted on my left perch.

Anyway what I meant was working out how to use it, not mount it. Sometimes it connects sometimes it doesn't.

Max - what is protunes mode?

Protune mode is really for tv, it bumps the data rate from about 16 mb/per second to 35 so the quality is awesome but you drastically reduce card capacity and battery life

And you computer wont play it back natively to much data rate required from the hdd

Protune is really a waste of time for us bike riders with standard computers leave it off is my advice

Seeing how Madmax used a Ram Mount on his mirror got me all inspired so after searching the interwebs i found Johnny appleseed a GPS mob in melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane were miles cheaper that Ebay and other on line stores

http://www.ja-gps.com.au

So already having some ram mounts i bought 2 of 11mm base mounts and 2 x 1"ball gopro mounts and a small double short clamp ordered Monday night shipped from Brisbane yesterday got them today all for $17.00 Postage with Startrack

total cost $76.00 landed

Ok here is how i mounted them plus my suction mount for the Fairing

now i cheated a bit with the remote mount as i ready have the proper cradle, but using a curved mount and clamp it sits neatly on the handle bars

its a GoPro Accessory

http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/wi-fi-remote-accessory-kit

then use a curved base plate with a standard mount and hold it in place with a radiator clamp i just slipped some shrink wrap around it to make it look nice

Cheers

Further to this post i found that love nor money could i get the Jello effect or vibration out of my footage with the camera mounted where i had them.
Mirror
Givi Bracket behind the seat

so this morning with the family out i had some time to reflect and experiment with where to rear mount my gopro.

so i replaced the pin on the left hand side rear footpeg with a long bolt and used the ram base plate to mount off that. And on the right hand side i mounted a second base plate to right hand side foot peg bracket. using the ram clamps and gopro 1"ball mount on each side of the bike, gear up and lets test it

As you can see very stable footage ( or as stable as i am ever going to get ) and no Jello effect. Bloody stoked

now just waiting for my R&G crash bars to arrive and then i will have the perfect base of my forward mount
