If I had two right hands to be able to set it whilst riding, I would say it was a great idea.

I got the cat o-ring $6 to try, not great but ok. using the o-ring makes me think the holeshots throttle lock would be way to hard to use on the go. this is my opinion only, different people think differently. I think Exclamation lol
the o-ring rolls over the bar end, & when needed it just rolls in to just fit in between the grip & bar end and just holds the throttle grip and u can still use the throttle.
I like the the sound of the brakeaway, its Instant front brake release sound good.

I have had one of these for a few years (cost me about 8 bucks from MCAS) and think they are great.
It is amazing how much relief you get just from being able to relax your right hand indefinitely on long rides.

In 1997 I bought a GR650 which had a Vista throttle lock on it. When I sold the bike, I kept the throttle lock an used it on my GSX600F and now the B12.

I find it's useful, particularly at the end of the day.

I tried the 'crampbuster' (got it for free from my wifes work) a few year ago, but it did nothing for me. My wife, on the other hand loved it. But she left it on the bike and some prick nicked it.

Just ordered a BreakAway unit tonight from Custom Dynamics, Aust $250 landed.

Breakaway themselves didn't answer my email query about selling to or distributors in Australia. Their online ordering is only geared to US/Canada customers, and on top of that the price was actually US$10 more than Custom Dynamics.

It should be here next week, I'll see how it goes fitting and in actual operation and report back, the PDF instructions seem to be pretty easy to follow and has lots of photos for us reading impaired DYI enthusiast.

For $250 I wonder why you do not put the Audiovox cruise control on. I have after having used throttle locks. The issue with locks are that they DO NOT hold a steady speed BUT only hold a throttle position. As such going up hill, the bike will slow down and going down hill the bike will speed up. On the other hand the Audiovox will hold a set speed and works just like a car cruise control. On the TWT site there are extensive reports (including mine) about fitment. I find it great to use on highways as it stops you speeding, and also gives you excellent fuel economy. And in Victoria where the police are very enthusiastic to book any one 2kph over this stops the bike and saves you the fines.

Hi Davo,

I have installed these Vacuum/servo units on at least three cars previously so I am fairly familiar with this type of setup.

The switch boxes always seemed to let the units down, not in a failure sense, they just seemed to me to be a cheap arrangement.

I also think installing the Audiovox is quite complicated for the novice, getting the vacuum connection and then linking the servo cable onto the throttle butterfly is not as simple as placing a clamp over the right hand grip. Finding a good mount for the servo unit would be another challenge. Although you get less bang-for-your-buck, the simpler Breakaway has it's advantages during installation.

I am not sure where you have your control box mounted, but the location of the Breakaway provides for a very natural engagement/disengagement. I also love the added feature of it being disengaged as soon as the handbrake is engaged, although I have never had a problem with the break light connection on the car units, I just get a better warm and fuzzy with how the Breakaway is setup.

I did seriously consider the Audiovox and went through the TWT info and installation, in the end it was the simplicity of the Breakaway unit and it's superb finish (it could have been directly from the Suzuki factory) that won me over. Comes down to personal choice really, and as I don't need to worry about the Victorian +/- 0.001kph rules just yet the speed vs throttle thing wasn't that much of an issue.

Regards

Barry

Barry, how are you finding the Breakaway unit? i know that they dont adjust speed like a truecruise control, but if i wanted mindless transport id drive my car, just something that looks good and is effective for short term relief

OK - so what gets me is that in the demo he uses two hands, one to twist the throttle and one to set the lock - but how easy is it to use when you want to hold the throttle and set the lock with one hand ? ( as in when actually riding )

You just press the larger square button with the thumb of your right hand, very simple, natural.

To release just pull on the front brake lever or press the smaller lever (again with your thumb).

The palm of your hand never needs to leave the throttle grip.

You can also over-ride the friction clutch when applied and twist the throttle, this is a good way to adjust the speed due to hills etc.

Pricey, but worth it IMHO.

Get some wierd looks when you take your right hand of the grips and are still maintaining speed. Shocked

Sorry - I was referring to the Throttlemeister (Holeshot) one in the OP video. It would seem very difficult to engage it one handed on the move.

The Brakeaway unit, which I think you have, looks excellent and appears to be a very effective and well made piece of kit.
