Post  fat pete Mon 16 Sep 2013, 12:33 am

ive got a 5/00 made 1200 and at the moment im looking at buying some bits for her,now all the adds for stuff run thru models and say stuff like 96 to 06 models s,v,w,x,y,k1,k2 and you get the picture,now all i can see on my plate is the 5/00 and next to that i can see gsf1200k.ill have to go up the shed and try to read the other stuff on there,but the fairing makes it hard,,in my workshop manual it ses that a 2000 model should say gsf1200sy or gsf1200y,..the only mention of a k is the 2001 model which ses gsf1200k1..im tryn to figure out why it just has a k..?it annoys me..my ocd will not let it rest till i find out whats what,my reg papers say 2000mmodel and that plate on the frame has the 5th month of 2000 stamped on it..i just cant find any gsf12000k anywhere???doin me head in...

just curious mate, may sound like a stupid question, but..do you have projector lights?

don`t know anything about the 2000 model apart from, I thought 96-2000 were the same, meaning GEN 1, which means no projector light!

was under the impression, K was GEN 2

I'd say you have a K1 which would be a 2001 model built mid-2000.  Suzuki used to use a letter system, from memory 1979 = year N, 1980 = year T in an order best known to Suzuki.  They then went to straight a - z years, and now a letter to designate the decade 2000's = K and 2010's = L followed by a number for the year, so this (2013) is year L3

The letter after the model number is the year code

V= 2000
K1 = 2001
K2 = 2002

Its a bit hard to read on this site see here but if you look closely above each picture you'll see some text. I found highlighting made it easier to read.

That's a great site MM, thanks.

If you go to the FAQ section and look up Bike Identification it provides even more data including VIN decoding and other mysterious labels and plates, see here

Don't start worrying about something that you might not even have. Very Happy   When you get better, just ride it and then you will tell what you have got.  The Bandits come from a long line of strong engines. ie. GSX1100 and the like. Easy to rebuild with plenty of options if need be.

don`t worry about it to much mate.

you`ve  probably already read that some use to burn oil due to the piston issue by passing the oil ring

you should join up with maximumsuzuki, lots of good stuff on there, then click on that link again.

it was a message from Suzuki itself, telling of the issue.
